I used to have McAfee installed on the computer but have removed this totally from the computer. I would like to remove the Anti Virus Shield but when I do this it says that the programme is already running and that I should close it. Would be grateful of any suggestions and also links or programmes that would help remove it.

Could you suggest any other programmes that are free and could help protect my computer?

DON'T REBOOT when not asked. Some programs are working on SYSTEM TRAY [near the system clock] you must close first the application before you uninstall it. Just find what the icon of that program then right-click and exit or close. Then your fine.

Hold Ctrl, Alt and Delete - wait for the Task Manager to start, then click on Processes. In the list of processes, find all occurrences of avp.exe - select them and click on End Process. Then try uninstalling.

what's the call of the anti-virus application you attempt to place in ? Is it a CD or did you acquire a document off the internet ? this is entirely available for a document downloaded off the internet to be incorrect through blunders in the time of transmission, it is termed document corruption. if to procure the document off a torrent, there's an excellent threat that's been hacked via criminals to place in malware pretending to be anti-virus.
