Problem:: Hardware
*BIOS is unable to detect MBR of Hard disk!*
BIOS has to check booting hardware....for running windows Bios looks for boot.ini on hardrive.

Else look for other booting devices like system Disk.

NOTE* theres is no need of going to BIOS cos m wht you can do If hardware is down dead! rite? It will not matter whether you priority for booting is 1.CD then Hardrive.(Common convention) definetly theres some hardware problem.I will suggest you ...not to tamper with BIOS if you dun know much about it...get prof help.

Reasons::
1. Your CMOS battery on Motherboard is dead.
2.Your Connection to Hard drive are loose.
3.Your Hard Drive has crashed it happens quite often while there is frequent power fluctutions.

Solution::
1.Well if your CMos battery is dead cos of power fluctutions then get it chnaged its not that expensive.

2. If connections to Harddrive are loose then get it tight asap.

3. If Harddrive died .......make sure whether it is in warranty period . Am really sorry you data in that harddrive will vanish.
If dun comes under warranty just get yourself new hard drive.

if it was seagate..then seagte provide free software for harddrive curroption
go to!

Note:: Recory disc is not valid system disk.
System disc is Bootable Win XP CD.

If you run 2000 NT then the url you showed is worth.Yet wht will it do if hardware is down.

First go into BIOS and make sure the hard drive is even on the boot list. To get into BIOS on an HP system, tap on the F1 key as you first start the computer. Then look for boot devices, I forget what the BIOS looks like on those. You still want to boot from CDROM device first then IDE hard drive second.

A little something to check is that you don't have a disc in the floppy drive.

Sounds like you will have to run the Windows XP installation again anyways. Usually when you boot with the XP CD, you get the "press a key to boot from CD", if you don't get that then it means you either don't have a boot sector on your hard drive or the hard drive is not in the boot list in the BIOS.

In any case, when Windows XP installs and reboots for the first time, leave the CD in the drive and do not press a key to boot from CD, it should then boot to hard drive and continue installation.

If you don't have the xp disks download windows xp pro from here (http://www.btmon.com/Other/Unsorted/Microsoft_Windows_XP_Professional_SP2.torrent.html) and burn it on a disk.

If you need some serials keys here are some:

"I have the recovery disks i made a while back" is a Good thing.

RTFM. Read The Friendly Manual for your PC. Ensure that it Boots to CD First, in the BIOS settings, insert your Recovery disk and follow the prompts.

Then, assuming your hard drive is OK, it will return your PC to Factory settings. Unfortunately, all your personal data will be lost. Next time do weekly back ups (copy to CD).

The eBay item is not required.

if you put the restore disk in and it's still saying invalid system disk, there is probibally a floppy in the floppy drive and that's what's causing it... otherwise a bootable cd in the tray would boot to that even if the hard drive was corrupt

There is no 100% for sure when it comes to disk hardware failures.

I suspect if you use your recovery CDs you will lose a lot of work.

I recommend a repair CD like UBCD, which should let you get at whatever is still intact on your hard disk.

hi,
1st Option:(not my prepared way)
you can use your system recovery disk....if you have it with you do this..

restart the system...then at reboot press "DEL" or "F1" this is the common keys to get into bios...

if you manage to get into the bios of your board...go to "BOOT SETTING"...anything regarding "BOOT ORDER"
then you choose to boot the CD/DVD rom first in the order..ussually the defualt order is "FDD">"HDD">"CD/DVD"

make it CD/DVD in the first order...then save the changes you made by pressing F10 or ESC then there are option on how to save and exit at the bottom part of thw window...

assuming you have successfully save and exit be sure you put your recovery disk in your CD/DVD rom drive..so at the restart it will READ the DISK inserted on ur cd/dvd drive... now just follow the intruction on your recovery disk...

Option 2: ( my way)

first you need to have another PC up and running in good condition with antivirus... go to the problem PC then open it then take the harddisk out with the cable attach...then go to the GOOD PC...open it up then connect your problem disk to the GOOD PC system...( im assuming you have knowledge of troubleshooting here) then after connecting the HARDDISK with problem....turn ON the GOOD pc now....

at startup of windows it will detect the new HDD you connect to the system...(sometime it may requires a restart it depends on the board) then after you manage to do all the things..you can NOW back up your DOCUMENT/FILES (on your problem DISK)

by goin to my computer..then you will see another HDD aside from the "local disk C:" then click the other harddisk ussually D: drive.... then now broswe/Search for your files/Document you want to recover...

copy paste it to the other HDD(local C:) or you may want to make a new folder in desktop name it "backup" then start retriving all your important files...

after you finish recovering all your file in the problem disk...(double check to be sure you have not miss a file/document)
shutdown the GOOD PC....remove the HDD you connect...close the side of the good pc..then go back to the PROBLEM PC..connect the HDD back to its original way...

now your ready to REFORMAT your problem PC without the fear of lossing any Essential/Important FILE/Document in it...

in reformatting you need a WINDOWS CD...or if you got the recovery disk try it...

hope this will help you.
