I want to get it, but I have some programs that I can't get anywhere anymore and I don't want to lose them and all my other files and folders as well.

If you upgrade, you should be fine. I would still backup the files you need to a cdr though to be safe.

"I have some programs that I can't get anywhere anymore and I don't want to lose them", the odds are very high that these apps won't even run on Vista.

"all my other files and folders" should be copied to CD before you switch, or your hard drive fails.

Wait until you have to buy a new PC with Vista on it. Then, deal with both issues AND peripheral device driver issues, too.

Try and find out.
Anyway why do you want to upgrade? It is risky, at the best, to upgrade now because of comparability problems. My advice is if you have XP stick with it for a while.

No, if you choose the upgrade option when installing it. All your stuff will stay and your settings as well.
