I have suffered from depression and ocd for a lot of years which has left me unable to do anything. Now I'm 26 and I'm sure that my life has gone and I won't be able to do anything. Does anyone have any advice?

Wow, so your life is over at 26. Well I have news for you, Ill be fifty in well less than a year and whatever "it" is your struggling through, been there, done that and bought the t shirt. Ive lost a buisiness, gave up a career to stay with a marriage thats working..so so and finessed my way out of moire than a few jams, but i survive and am surviving today. I have a life plan thats called reinventing the wheel.

Life ascribes to change, and if you dont change it will change you. Ok, so you didnt become captain of the football team, marry the cheerleader and win the lottery. The sun still shines and you still wake up every morning. The answer is to find out who you are and what your about. I know what your thinking..."easier said than done." If you dont know, go to someone who knows you and does, pray, talk to a counselor or someone at a school, the point here is GET HELP. Once you know who you are and what your capable of, the next step is to get a path of where to go. Find something your interested in, good at, want to learn or someone else knows that your curioius about. AND LEARN TO DO IT. Life is full of adventure and waits for no man. You and everyone else on the planet dies a little every day and pal, I plan to go down fighting like a madman, owing everyone money and in bed with three or more attractive women...catch my point?

My wife came to me one day and said my career is moving me to another city, DEAL WITH IT. In one day id lost my business, my job, most of my friends and my career. I, as you, hit the skids and contemplated my navel for about a year. When I woke up, as you will, I realized Id better do something or I was going to get run over. I taught myself computers as a hobby. I went the good old fashioned way. I ripped em apart and found someone who could put em back together I could ask questions. It took five years of double shifts and crappy conditions but I now have a hobby that at least brings in something other than chump wages at the store I manage. Dont get me wrong here, things are far from perfect.

I work at a job that exhausts me, the computers sometimes dont work the way i want and I get frustrated too, but I have a work in progress, its called life. Stop making excuses for yourself, get off of your behind and solve the mystery of what is me. You could find more than your lookikng for and the nice thing about it is if you love yourself someone special could love you too. Good luck and god bless.+

Your life is over at 26 - don't make me laugh. The problem with OCD, as far as I understand, is that you are prone to get worked up over the most trivial of things. This sets you up on a spiral which inevitably leads to depression. Some people are helped with anti-depressants and tranquilizers - however you are then likely to develop an addiction. The only way out of this situation is to start doing things you really don't feel like doing. Make a list of the things that you don't want to do and do one of them. It might take you several attempts but once you start you may find your mood improves.

i have ocd as well but its sort of under control, i donno how severe u have it. about depression, ive never seen anyone for it but sometimes i feel like i do have depression. im 22 and i feel like my life is going to waste, i have a job i hate, im studying a major i hate and all the fun has been sucked out of my life. my advice is, if u have the financial ability (unlike me) take time off from life, family and friends and go travel with someone who either understands ur situation and feels the same, or someone u know will show u great time. im not gonna tell u to go to a shrink or anything because i beleive that life's experiences can be curing from anything. as for ocd, like i said if its severe then go see a doctor for that coz i think there's a pill for it... anyway i really hope u feel better soon i mean remeber, no matter how stuck u feel in ur life u always have a choice!!! coz noone owns ur life but u

Well, same story here.
But, once, I know a nice friend, she cheered me up, we talked about everything, and I noticed I felt less depressed.
My conclusion is, in this dark time, you need to have good friend around you, friends that can cheer you up, and shifts your attention outside, 'cause my opinion is mostly depressed people lock themselves from friends.
I'm depressed, but I'm holding on.

Hope you get better.
