The game strategy is that you want to follow-up enough so that you show them your sincerity in your interests for their job, but you do not want to overdo it, so that they feel you are very desperate, and even when you are the best candidate, they would not give your a good job offer in the monetary sense as they know you are desperate enough to take it no matter what.
For your case, since they have told you that they will decide by the end of the week, I would just wait. If the week past, and nothing happen, then you should be able to predict the outcome. There is probably nothing much you can do to change their decision at this point. I would suggest you move on and keep job hunting. However, good news can come to you in a couple of days too, right?
Rejection is God's way for protection. So if you did not get this job, do not feel sad. Life is beautiful and they are many good jobs out there.
I wish you the best of luck, and I hope it works out for you by the end of the week, and do not worry too much. Just let things be.

Call on Friday - send a letter from a post office this morning to your potential boss to show your interest.
A phone call is easy and intruding - a written (typed) letter means you actually care about the position and want to stay in their minds.
The letter should thank them for the interview. Mention who you interviewed with and three points why you're the best candidate for the job.In addition, bring up a notable point from the interview which stuck in your mind that you felt you had a connection with your potential boss.
Best 41 cents of your life.

No, I would not call again until at least the following Monday if I had not heard from them. But after your interview it would have been more appropriate to send a thank you letter or e-mail. If you have not already done so, this would be the time for making sure you use good ettiquette.

I think you should. It shows you're interested. Maybe they haven't made their mind up yet.
I've had an interview once, someone else had got the job. I kind of knew this but i rang them anyways for a clear "NO" to be spelled out. ended you being offered another position that hadn't been advertised.
go for it, thats why they have a phone!!

As mentioned in above answers - a "thank you" letter is an ideal chance to follow up after an interview. It also gives you the chance to "brush up" on areas you may have forgot to mention in the interview.
Fore more information on these sorts of letters, see http://www.thecvstore.net/Thank-youletter.htm
Hope this helps!

No you shouldn't you don't wanna seem desperate. Because they might be looking for someone who is a professional and is calm, cool and collective.
