I want to wear my hair like this. Here are some pictures. In case you can't see them, it's like a samurai ponytail, where the har band is, like, extended out from the back of the head.

Does anyone know what this is called exactly, and how to do it?

Thank you!

It's what's commonly called a Top Knot. You grow your hair to shoulder length then tie it up at the top of your head, not at the back in a ponytail. A bit out of fashion today especially in cramped cars, you'd be getting a stiff neck all the time from tilting your head sideways, just so it won't keep touching the car roof. The whole point of wearing top knots for Samurai in the old days was so it would be easier to carry the head after it has been decapitated. If you're planning to join MMA type tournaments with that hairdo, expect to get your scalp uprooted as it will be a prime target for grappling, I once saw a UFC match back in the early years where a JKD guy with long hair got beaten to a pulp and lost because his opponent grabbed him by the hair and kicked the crap outta him.

Well, I have no clue what it is called, but it looks simple enough to create. I hope you have really long hair, though! Otherwise, you're gonna end up with a little spiky thing on the top of your head, not a flowing tail.

Flip your head over and brush your hair in a tail at the top of your head (towards the top-back of your skull like in the picture, not directly above your spine.) I would secure it in place with an elastic band before going for height. Once it is in position, wrap either fabric or leather from the base to wherever looks good, keeping it as tight as possible. Securing the loose end might be tough, but use your imagination. A pin, glue, tucking it in, etc. Use a little hairspray to control any loose ends and voila! You've got samurai hair!

If you are having problems, find a female with long hair or someone used to working with long hair. I'm sure they can help. Have fun!

samurai generally wore a hair style called a "top knot". They look similar to the pictures, except the head is all shaved except for the "knot" of hair left behind. The hair style in the pictures is simple to create, just put a band in your hair when long enough.
