I know a lot but I am always learning new things everytime I go to church, read the BoM and the missionaries come to visit me. We don't do anything weird, we are normal people who laugh, cries and have feelings like anyone else :)

I live in Utah, I know A LOT about the LDS faith. They prefer that term over Mormons, at least around here. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the official title. They believe that the prophet Joseph Smith received divine revelation from God revealing the manuscripts of the Book of Mormon, which is called such because it was written by a man named Mormon way in the past. There are a lot of strange misconceptions about them. Some say they are Amish or have many wives. Both are not true. Polygamy is outlawed in the church. They are just like your usual Christians, just that they have another book in addition to the Bible and tend to be "stricter" in their code of conduct. No dating before 16 is common, but not always the case, with Mormon teens. They tend to only date within the church. They are advised to stay away from tea and caffeine. They are good people, as far as I've known them. They believe in three "levels" of Heaven. If I remember correctly, the lowest is the Terrestial Kingdom, the middle is the Telestial and the highest (I know this for certain) is the Celestial Kingdom. Most people go to one level of heaven. The "hell" of this religion is called Outer Darkness. Only really terrible people go there. So, for those of us that aren't members of the church, we still have a good shot at the afterlife. They do believe they can become like God himself if they live perfectly according to his will. They also have one dang strong missionary program. Several of my friends from high school are out on missions right now. They go on these missions for two years. They leave after they turn 19. This is just the men. I believe the women have to wait until they are 21 before they can go, and it's not something they are "commanded" to do. It's a good religion. I don't think they're weird, but I don't personally think that their church is true. Most of the LDS people I've met are a lot nicer than some fundamentalist Christians I know.

The Garden of Eden was located in Missouri.
What is wrong with that? The bible doesn't say where The Garden of Eden is.
The Jewish Prophet Malachi Fled Israel, built a submarine and settled North America.
??? Where is the source for this? No Malachi never left Israel. Another anti mormon misconception
Some of his children were palefaces, some were native colored. The Native looking ones killed off the European looking ones.
There were no Europeans....another anti mormon misconception
Joseph Smith found gold books and two rocks to read them with, his hat spoke to him too.
His hat never spoke...another anti mormon misconception
An angel took the books away leaving only Joes Clifnotes.
No cliff notes....anoter AMM
It was OK to have many wives.
We dont' practice polygamy anymore.
Satan and the Angels had a war in heaven. 1/3 of the Angels sided with Satan, those are the ****** today.

God lives on a planet called Cobol
NO planet called Kobol...it's a star near where God dwells.
When we die we all become Gods, get our own planet with many wives and we rule it as a God.
Where is the source for this?
We are supposed to populate that planet by having constant unending sex with our many wives.
There is no unending sex with many wives....source please.

It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960) The church even protected over 100 other killers involved in this massacre from Federal prosecution. Then they say "Thou Shalt Not Kill " doesn't apply to them . Only everyone else.
It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400 dead.

I know that it all started by the revealing of a newer Testament to Prophet Joseph Smith when he was approached by the angel Moroni on the 'evening of the twenty-first of September 1823) as he was in a deep prayer in his room.
The Book of Mormon comprises 15 main parts or divisions, known, with one exception, as books, each designated by the name of its principle author.
Weird? I think every religion is 'weird' someway or another... its just that we don't realize them. I've known many... I mean MANY Mormons who are really nice and 'good' people for their observance in practice and understanding.

I know that I have been LDS my whole life and intend to remain LDS until I die. I KNOW that we believe in Jesus Christ. We believe in the Book of Mormon and we also believe in the Bible. We do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship God. We revere Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, and we believe in prophets. We believe that family is sacred. We believe that the purpose of life is to learn to be happy.
Yes, we do things which the world considers "weird". Our temples are sacred to us and we refrain from talking about them (unless you're that idiot barfing into his hat--yeah, disgruntled exMormons are probably not the best source of information!!!!) Because of this, lots of people think we are something strange and horrible. But they are happy to eat at our tables after Hurricane Katrina. Oddly enough, we still feed them too. Happily even. We believe in doing good to all men, even when they don't do good to us.
EDIT:
We D O N ' T wear magic underpants. So many of the answers you've gotten here...yeah, they don't know diddly.
EDIT 2:
TAN MAN, you are tedious. Get a new rant! How many times do you need to post the bloody thing word for word? Spam spam spam spam....

The belief that we can become God is contrary to all that scripture teaches. It turns the whole garden of Eden story on its head. In the garden Satan told man if you eat of fruit of tree of the knowledge of good and evil you will become like God. God said don't eat or you will surely die. So if we can become God then Satan was actually the truth teller and God the liar. also I know there is no archaeological find that has ever confirmed anything written in the book of Mormon. Whereas some places have been confirmed in both the old and new testament. I also know the three witnesses to the book of Mormon were later apostatized from the faith and that Joesph and his brother Hyrum had written some material denouncing their character. Not a good start considering they were the star witnesses. I also know there are two Mormon churches. There was a split and a court case. One group retained the right to be called the true church and the other was schismatic.

I don't know much.
I'm not going to guess what their beliefs are because I (a JW) wouldn't want people to guess at what I believe. I'm going to treat them the way I'd want to be treated, with respect and digity. (Matt 7:12)
As for weirdness all I can say is that weirdness is in the eye of the beholder. What one considers "weird" another considers perfectly "normal".

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the fremission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and dminister in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, postles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the bword of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be erenewed and receive its fparadisiacal gglory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
