Amazing how Jordan was left out, not that I'm complaining. The Jordan bandwagon is full, please catch another one.

Magic, Pippen and Bird are of the same breed. Big guys who could do anything on the court, each doesn't have just one special skill that they bring to the table. Magic will forever be remembered for his playmaking, Bird for his jumper and Pippen for his D.

The only thing that seperates the 3 is that both Pippen and Magic have teammates who are considered match-winners, Kareem and Jordan. Don't forget that Malone had Stockton

On the virtue that Bird can carry a team by himself some level more than the rest...

Larry Bird

This type of question is SO SUBJECTIVE. In some respects Erving and Drexler are EXACTLY the same player.

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG with either of these guys.

One thing to keep in mind though. Jordan really brought out the best in Pippen. He pushed him.

True story: I walked right past Pippen, Horace Grant and Craig Hodges back in 1987 in an almost empty street and really didn't notice. I mean, I acknowledged the guys but it didn't occur to me until later who they were.

The thing that should occur to you is this. NO ONE knew who Pippen was his rookie year. Mike had a real influence on Pippen's career. Without him I don't think you see the same Scottie Pippen.

All the other guys you mentioned had the desire to be great coming into the league and did not hesitate to take the lead from day one.

If I had to pick one guy to build a team around it would be Magic. Although Bird has a better jump shot, Magic's ability to make everyone around him so much better makes his desirablity as an initial pick undeniable. His enthusiasm is contagious and his spirit and fire for the game is unparalled by most great players.

Uh... Which Malone are you talking about, Moses or Karl? I'll post my list without Malone for now.

1. Earvin "Magic" Johnson
2. Larry Bird
3. Julius "The Doctor" Erving
4. Scottie Pippen
5. "Clyde The Glide"

Magic. He led his Lakers to 5 NBA titles. He is the greatest point guard ever to play basketball. He made his teammates better. He made passing so cool and his play was entertaining and very effective. He's the only player in NBA history who could dominate (not just play) all 5 positions. Remember the 1980 Finals Game 6 where Kareem was unavailable? He started at center, played forward and guard, had 42 pts, 15 rebs, and 7 ast and won his first nba title in just his rookie season!

Magic was the best ever in transition. He led the break and shoved the ball down your throat or backed you down and carved you up with a pass or drive. He was also an underrated stealer and blocker.

For me, MJ is the greatest ever. Next to him is Magic Johnson.

It's a toss up between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. These 2 legends truly defined the 1980's.

Magic.
All, Magic has all those things more than Bird.
You are right that Bird got them before, but a- Bird was drafted a year earlier, and b- it doesnt matter who got em 1st. What matters is who got more of them.
And Magic was a better passer than Bird.
...because...Magic was the best passer to ever play the game!

Erving and Drexler arent exactly the same. Drexler was a better passer.

Pippen shut down Magic in the Finals, He won 6 rings with Mike, Should've been the league MVP when Mike was out playing baseball and defined the Point Forward position. Pip's the best cause he's the most complete among these people.
