I watch Maury Povich a lot and a few days ago he was doing a story about the Mormons in Utah and their polygamy lifestyle.

He showed a Mormon family but the host wife and the husband had their heads blacked out. The ancillary wives appeared happy and the children appeared happy. Do they usually live this way?

Yes, they do. (See, without providing the context, that's as accurate as your answer Joshsy) Polygamy is still a doctrine of the Mormon church, and Mormon prophets and apostles have taught that polygamy will be restored on the Earth at some point and that it is the "norm" in Mormon heaven. Mormon prophets have even taught that both Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are polygamists. Mormon policy currently forbids men to be married to more than one living wife, however if a man's wife dies, he is free to be sealed "for time and eternity" to another wife. In the next life he will be married to all his wives for eternity. So yes, I'd say they still practice polygamy, just not in the same way they did in the nineteenth century. Most Mormons today won't agree with me, even though I am doctrinally and historically 100% correct. Particularly Mormon women today get pretty bent out of shape when it is suggested that they will be asked to share their husband with other wives in heaven, particularly when it is made clear that their ultimate glory is to help their husband and sister wives create more spiritual offspring (eternal increase). Honestly, I think most modern Mormons, women in particular, just haven't thought through the implications of Mormon doctrine surrounding polygamy, still in force and waiting to take effect, whether in this life or in the next. But I can't blame them, because the modern Mormon church does a really good job of sweeping that sort of thing firmly under the carpet. Instead, it emphasizes "eternal families" and "warm fuzzy feelings" and programs, programs, programs to keep members busy.

First, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly called Mormons, do not practice polygamy and haven't since 1890. Those that still practice polygamy today are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They took it upon themselves to continue this principle after the President of the Church, Wilford Woodruff, in 1890 revealed that it was no longer to be practiced. It was better to yield to the laws of the land than to have the Church destroyed by federal agents that were sent to enforce the laws. They would have confiscated church property, including our temples, thrown our leaders into prison and had already disenfranchised the members. They were not allowed to vote, sit on a jury or have any other civil rights. We felt this was all unconstitutional but to no avail so the Lord allowed us to terminate the practice in order for the Church to survive and continue our work with that one little change.
Thus, there are no "Mormons" practicing polygamy today.
The fundamentalists are not "Mormons".

Modern Mormons do not practice polygamy. There are groups in Utah descended from Mormons that do, but often they have never been members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The fundamentalist LDS follow the word and teaching of Jospeh Smith and Brigham Young, therefore they are more mormon than the mormons, who practise a weak watered down version. If the US govt. had not threatened to take away the Tax freee status of the Mormon church if they did not stop practicing polygamy, then you would find it wouold probably still be there.

According to a news article I read just today, about 40,000 fundamentalist Mormons practice polygamy in Utah and nearby states.

The LDS Church (Mormons) does not practice polygamy.

The FLDS Church does practice polygamy. I think its laughable that your source of enlightenment is Maury Povich. You should be embarrassed for being so out of touch with intelligence.

Like all Christian-based religions .. its all fiction. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence knows this.

If you hang out in St. George UT you will see alot of this. It's really sick in my opinion. And Mike above is lying or naive. They also do this sneakily in Salt Lake proper, I have caught them at it. This is why I refuse to live in UT.

If God wanted us to have lopsided marriages like this he would've created more than one eve to be with adam. Since that is no where in the Tanakh, I don't believe that it ever happened.

And Punter is so wrong. The reason there aren't enough men to go around isn't just from gays, but also from men killing each other off. If they would just stop having jihads, there would be plenty of men.

And by the way, a woman being freed doesn't make her public property, but FREE! I'll take freedom any day. I would rather not be the property of any man, than to settle for a lunatic who can't even type english properly and doesn't know truth from the hole he sits on. In marriage, no woman is property in any religion but islam. I would definately not be part of any religion that tries to say that a woman, who risks life giving birth, is property or stupid as islam claims women are. I bet I can outthink most muslim men, and I have, two at a time even.

"So how do you like them apples!" as the saying goes.

Hmmm........ I am sure that you are confusing the real LDS church with the FLDS "church." The FLDS are not real Mormons, they are something apart from the Mormon church and they do commit polygamy.
Members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints do NOT commit polygamy and if any member does, he/she will be excommunicated .

*FLDS are not traditional Mormons, they are not even Mormons.
