where is that lymph node? how much is its size? is there any other lymph nodes? ARE YOU SURE THAT THIS IS A LYMPH NODE? Has your child had vaccination recently? if its size is less than 1*1 cm, no tenderness, do not worry, if it is an inguinal lymph node even as large as 1.5*1.5 cm, again do not worry. But if it is larger, or the lymph node in tender ( your child feels bad and cry when you touch it, it aches), or more than 1, or your child has other symptoms like sniff nose, fever, crying a lot, not having appetite or sth like this, seek medical care. It can be anything from a simple viral infection to more serious diseases (bacterial, fungal, etc).
Good luck!

Swollen lymph nodes happen for a wide variety of reasons, not just Infectious Mononucleosis. However your two year old may have Mono, Its just putting together the other symptoms such as fever, sore throat, fatigue to be sure.
My guess is the lymph nodes near the throat or armpits are swelling up. Hopefully they are not staying swollen for long periods of time like 8 days or more.
It usually is not serious, my lymph nodes swell up every once in a while when I get a cold. But seeing as your child is only 2 years old I think seeing a doctor would be best to make sure it isnt something more serious like a cancer of the blood.
But ya take him/her to your doctor to make sure.

Lymph nodes are part of our defensive immune system that trap any element that wld affect or compromise our well being. Elements cld be viruses, bacteria, cancer cells, etc. Swollen lymph nodes wld mean that the nodes have entrapped an element to prevent its spread or to slow down its spread to other parts of the body. The reason wld depend on what particular area in the body the lymph nodes are involved. Are they on the sides of the neck? Both sides or one side only? Are they underneath the jaw or mandible? Armpits? Inguinal areas? The usual causes are infection...be it viral or bacterial. If around the neck, check for colds, respiratory infections, lung infections, etc. Underneath the jaw: U have canker sores, dental caries, infected wounds in thw mouth after an accident, etc. Armpit: infected wound in the arm and so too if its inguinal, the legs. Other associated signs and symptoms will help like fever, functional disabilities, pain, etc.
Best to assess the condition wld still be a pediatrician. As I have mentioned, there are several reasons for ur child to have swollen lymph nodes. Go see 1 soon.

Normally a gland would mean an indication that the body is fighting off infection.. Depending on how bad it is you may want to get them to a doctor.. but, if it's pretty minor it could just be a sign of allergies, or a slight cold..
A node.. I honestly have no clue.. It has happened to me many times, but I never figured out why.. normally went away within a few days.. so my guess is it's similar to what happens with a gland..

Lymph node or lymph gland?
I know the lymph glands just mean that they are sick and have a virus and that their body is trying to fight the virus.
