When I was fairly new and naive in this forum, I used a real photo...I was proud of it, as it was my photo from the back of my very first published novel.
However, I learned my lesson very quickly, when a nameless adversary (suffice it to say, we knew one another from a Yahoo chat room) decided to hijack my photo and post it to a rather nasty dating site, complete with alot of false information and completey ridiculous remarks about my sexuallity.
I very quickly removed the photo and opted for something less personal. I like my bouncy little angel...she represents the spirit inside of me.
I hope nobody else ever has to ho through the humilation my old acquaintance put me through...and that is why I strongly recommend using an avatar.

Thew only thing that stops me from using a photo is that I couldnt handle all the offers to play Santa Claus at Chistmas.( Okay so I look a little younger than Santa but pretty close)

I don't know why some people would want to do this. Take "Q" for example- the first time his avatar popped up on my screen, I reacted like John Belushi in "Animal House" when "Flounder's" mugshot was shown on the screen. Awful and scary.

Because someone asked why dont people put thier real pic up....so I said I would for a few minutes....and they asked me to keep it up.
Truth be told I'm too lazy to go back to the Avatar - even though she has better hair.

I would never assume that it is real. I have started looking at profiles before answer most questions to see if I am wasting my time, as I am probably doing now.

Perhaps some feel this is simply another place to "meet" someone, so they figure maybe someone will see their mugshot and fall in love.
Or maybe they just really like looking at themselves??
