Jesus started the catholic church but passed his authority onto st peter the first pope, try www.scripturecatholic.com

http://www.scripturecatholic.com/history.html

this shows when and by who a variety of churches was established, baptists included. as for the person who started the baptist faith having more knowledge than st peter..... he didn't that is why he wasn't catholic.

john smyth in Amsterdam started the first form of baptists, from then on there are different leaders and forms of baptists as they have no real source of authority other than man. Christ established his one true holy catholic and apostolic church with the succession of st peter. churches thereafter have some truth in Christ but not whole truth as found in the roman catholic church, especially the Eucharist.

For the first 280 years of Christian history, Christianity was banned by the Roman Empire, and Christians were terribly persecuted. This changed after the “conversion” of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine provided religious toleration with the Edict of Milan in AD 313, effectively lifting the ban on Christianity. Later, in AD 325, Constantine called the Council of Nicea in an attempt to unify Christianity. Constantine envisioned Christianity as a religion that could unite the Roman Empire (state religion), which at that time was beginning to fragment and divide. While this may have seemed to be a positive development for the Christian church, the results were anything but positive. Just as Constantine refused to fully embrace the Christian faith, but continued many of his pagan beliefs and practices, so the Christian church that Constantine promoted was a mixture of true Christianity and Roman paganism. Constantine found that, with the Roman Empire being so vast, expansive, and diverse, not everyone would agree to forsake his or her religious beliefs to embrace Christianity. So, Constantine allowed, and even promoted, the “Christianization” of pagan beliefs. Completely pagan and utterly unbiblical beliefs were given new “Christian” identities.

Baptism is rooted in John the Baptist and Jesus being washed by him. That trumps your St. Peter. Besides, you confuse the founding of a sect which requires political maneuvering and founding of religious belief by going back to sources.

Sorry, I'm not Baptist (anymore). I'm just curious. Where did you get the idea that Peter started the Catholic church?

Check out this link, for an example of Baptist tradition, which, along with the necessity of Baptism, is supposedly against Baptist beliefs:

Simon Magnus was the first pope. Not same man of the bible. Simon Peter of the bible was Jewish, an apostle of Jesus. The greatest deception many believe is that Simon Peter of the bible started the Catholic Church.

Ronald McDonald started the Baptist Church. That's why they make so much money.

My church was started by a murderer, King Henry VIII.
The Pope wouldn't give him a divorce so he killed his wife and had to start his own church. Unfortunately he wouldn't allow other men to divorce of kill their wives. He was a bit of an exception.
I heard that Jack the Ripper started the Penticostal Church.

Jesus Christ he commissioned the apostles to spread the Gospel and that's how Christianity was born.
also Note: Jesus always scolded the religious Pharisee of the time, they focused to much on rituals and laws and Missed The Christ they were waiting for.
