I am 16 and almost 180 pounds. I want to lose weight healthily, but even though it is summer, my schedule is packed and I am going to be traveling most of July. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, plans or pointers that work that you think could help?

Always read the labels if you buy food! Some sandwiches can have over 900 calories, which is almost half of the total recommended calories for a woman per day. (2000 calories is the standard measure.)

Substitute any soft drinks for water and juices, but be careful on the juices that they don't have a heck of a lot of sugar. 100% fruit juice is the best bet.

Do NOT starve yourself. If you stop eating, or eat very little, your body goes into 'starvation' mode and stores up fat cells, pretty much refusing to burn them off.

Also, exercise, but don' t go crazy. A few 5 minute workouts are totally doable while travelling, and can be quite effective. Just don't overdo it and end up injured, or you run the risk of injury, which can ruin all your plans.

Good luck!

First of all, get blood work done to ensure there is no internal reason. Talk to your doctor and get advise and feedback.

Otherwise, do the following:

1. Buy a Yoga tape and practice Yoga every other day. There are good tapes available from GIAM. Just do it for 15-20 minutes only but do exercises which are focussed on stomach and fat reduction.
2. Do not drink cold drinks. It slows down metabolism.
3. Every other day go for a 10 minute walk after every meal. Walk longer if you want to.
4. Eat small quantities every 2 hour. It increases the metabolism.

Simple things=great results.

I am really proud of you that you are health conscious. If you do these you will healthy for the rest of your life.

My daughter is 10 and we are having her following the same things!

Good luck! Make sure to report back great results.

How tall are you? if you are a TALL girl, losing too much weight is bad. Your bones will need muscles to help them operate and hold them up. But if you are short like me 5'2", I suggest raw fruits and veggies w/o sakt or sugar on it. Also, if you eat five or six little meals a day instead of 3 big meals, your muscles will be working more often causing you to lose weight (hopefully). Don't do anything w/o checking w/ a doctor. You may have a thyroid problem..... Applecider vinegar mixed with different things may help. Drink WATER (and a little milk for calcium intake) only.

Do not eat after 7:00 at night. As the previous poster wrote, make sure that you have healthy food with you, or you will end up snacking on junk food. Eat fruit, cut up vegetables, sandwiches on whole grain bread, rice cakes, low fat dairy products, etc., and try to get some exercise--a brisk walk is great, or run up and down the stairs! good luck

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

The only sure fire way is too burn more calories than you take in. Eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies-- compare the calories in an apple to a small bag of chips that should give some incentive.

you have to ask yourself "whats more important - my health or this trip"?
Seeing as though youwould be classed as pretty much "morbidly obese" (depending on your height) i hope you choose your health...

if your schedule is THAT busy that you can possibly fit in ecercise (which im sure its not that busy you cant fit in at least 20 mins) then you'll have to rely on diet. snack on fruits and vegetables. cut out the obvious things like saturated fats and sugars.
Also remember that it's best to eat "LESS and FREQUENTLY" than it is to eat "MORE - LESS FREQUENTLY". This increases your metabolism and helps to burn calories while you're not exercising.

15 mins skipping or doing jumping jacks is better than nothing right?
