Are all USB cables for digital cameras the same or do they all have a certain type?

YES! & NO!
YES.... technically the functions of the USB data cable is the same. They are meant for data transfer or may come with charging and power supply capability.

NO...... one end of plug that is supposed to connect to your digital camera or other devices may not be the same. Different manufacturer have their own design of plugs.

Most of the major camera makers use the standard USB mini connector for connection on the camera and the standard USB-a connector into your computer. Some of the off brand cameras use a proprietary cable

The side that fits into the camera is different for different brands. The side that fits into PC is same for all. Unfortunately, the camera makers have not thought about having a common type of USB plug that can fit into all cameras.

well no, the cord has 2 end connections... one is a usb that is common for most computers (that part is connected to ur comp.) then the other part of the cord is what connects to the camera, diffrent models or brands may have diffrent connections for that.. but the other parts is a common usb.

The connection into the computer will always be the same.
The connection into the camera is different for different companies and models.
There are approximately 4 that I can think of.
You would have to check with the manufacturer.

If the USB cable fits, it should work fine.

There are not "custom" usb cables, they all have to meet standards.

USB is USB however there are different ends from
A-A
A-B
A-Mini

Etc, You may buy a universal that has most of the available choices/
