If the General said something like we should have tanks in Iraq to a reporter doing a story on the war, but then in the following paper it read that the General didn't want tanks in Iraq.

Most generally not.

He or she could be fired if the Army General were to sue the publication or network for libel, however.

First, I wanna watch anybody try that one with a general. Second, I hope the schmuck has a real good attorney that lied intentionally!
