I have a 1GB Kodak Memory Card inserted into my digital camera... So far, the camera has been working fine... until about 10 minutes ago... I only had 23 pictures on the card and JUST shot a 18 minute video. I turned it off and then plugged it into my computer a few minutes later to upload my pictures and videos onto my laptop... But when I clicked on it to open it from "My Computer", it said "would you like to format the card?"... I clicked no, unplugged my camera and turned it on again... It said "card error" and wouldnt take any pictures or let me view anything... what is wrong? Can i fix the problem w/o reformatting the memory card? (and loosing EVERYTHING).... Any help is appriciated!

I would check the card on the camera. If the card is good on the camera, then the problem is with the pins inside the port of the computer the memory card fits.

I had similar story two weeks ago. I removed the card to download the photos to a digital photo storage since I was on vacation. I downloaded the pictures and wanted the card back to the camera. It gave an error and asked to format and I said yes and it gave an error. I stopped after sveral tries. When I got back, I took my camera to a camera store and they found out one of the pins in the card slot of camera is bent. I am taking it a repair shop someone recommended me.

I would verify he card first if it works. Check the pins inside the port of your computer for any damage. Use flash light if you could. If you find any damage such as bent pin, have it repaired.

You'll need to use a recovery program to attempt getting the pics off the card. Try http://www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/dpr.htm as it work very well(and free).

Once you get the pics off, format the media "in the camera". Always format the media in the camera (should be done every couple of months). If this works great. If not, you may have a bad memory card.
