Sigh! A lot of these arguments are caused by the common misconceptions and understanding of fighting and the martial arts in general. Most people equate fighting with martial arts. While this is understandable, the truth is, most martial arts have become somewhat obsolete in the sense that we no longer use Swords and Spears in this day and age nor is hand to hand combat a daily occurence. The average guy gets to fight for his life maybe once or twice in his lifetime and if he owns a gun, maybe never. So except for law enforcement and the Military, the venue for most people who practice the martial arts today are usually sporting competition events and forms exhibition events. Martial artists like Jet Li and Robin Shou practice Wu Shu, a forms exhibiton type of Martial arts, although it has self defense applications, this is only incidental, more emphasis is placed on the form and executi0n of the techniques than on it's effect on an opponent. Arts like these showcase an individual's skills, physical conditioning and athleticism, to show what a human body is capable of, it is a training for both mental and physical discipline, usually to promote good health and good personal character development. UFC type competitions on the other hand have a different objective, forms are not as important since the goal is to defeat one's opponent by submission or K.O. These are two different fields of endeavor altogether. So asking if Jet Li or Robin Shou can defeat UFC fighters is like asking if a Baseball player can beat a Basketball player in a one on one match. If they compete in a forms competition then the answer is yes. But in a UFC type match then obviously no. But if you're talking about a real fight to the d3ath with no rules, then my money's on Jet Li since he has had extensive training in weapons : P

Robin Shou has never fought in any competetion.

The moves you see on Mortal Kombat aren't even his own, or thought of by him. They are done by the fight choreographer.

He is hardly a brilliant fighter, as he never actually fights.

There is a huge difference between a fighter, and a movie star. Movie stars do prechoreographed routines that they speend weeks or months doing over and over again. And 90 percent of their fighting moves/combinations are done by the fight choreographer.

Jet Li would get owned in a one on one unnarmed fight with any UFC fighter, any K-1 kickboxer or Muay Thai guy, any Sanshou competetor, and any boxer. These people fight, it is their job. They see openings in defense and exploit them, they don't require wires, and they fight to win, not to look good.

Easy answer to your questions, a UFC fighter can beat any actor period. A UFC fighter can beat any forms person period.

Not sure how else to put it, actors are just that. Actors, they are acting as fighters.

Does Tom Cruise know how to drive a racecar better then Jeff Gordon?

Can Will Smith outbox Oscar De La Hoya?

The obvious answer is no, they pretend to do it, and it is done very well, but they are not actually fighting, or even doing their own moves or fight strategies. It is all choreography, a dance.

Do you think that Zhang Ziyi of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Rush Hour 2, Hero, is a bad *** fighter? Did you know she has no Martial Arts experience what so ever? She was a dancer, so she is able to perform the choreography beautifully, but she has no Martial Arts training what so ever.

Did you know that Chow Yun Fat is also not a Martial Artist. (Lee Mu Bai in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Bulletproof Monk.)

So understand fight choreography and the ability to perform it doesn't make you a great or brilliant fighter, it makes you a good physical performer.

Just to throw some insight there for you.

karate is really just a glorified for of dancing sorta. ufc fighters are very skilled in many different aspects of fighting. gracie was a great fighter in the early ufc's but since fighters brought multiple forms of fighting in it becomes mroe difficult. But any fighter can win on any given day. all it takes is one strike to bring a man to his knees.

check out a guy named kimbo slice. he is a great boxer. he fights a guy named gannon from the ufc and thats the only desent fighting he gets. a person with minor boxing skills can beat 95% of people in a fight.

shaolin monks have great physical abilitys and talents9yes i seen what they can withstand and what they are capable of doing), i completely agree. But in a real fight mma fighter would win of course....dont let the media and hype fool you, how many of this people actually KNOWS how shaolin monk fight? beside watching there demonstration and media work???? seriously...heres the reason why mma fighter would beat shaolin monk. >>>EXPERIENCE<<< mma fighter are constantly fighting/sparring full contact with there partners or competition on a daily basis. shaolin monk train there body and mind and practice techniques only. they have more than enough tools to be a fighter, its just experience they are lacking.
