I am 5'2" tall and I weigh 240 pounds. Needless to say, I need to lose over 100 pounds to be healthy. I would like to lose the weight through healthy diet and exercise, but am not sure how to do that. I would appreciate any tips or advice. Thanks a lot.

Eat only chicken and broccoli and take multivitamins. It's not easy, but it will work if you're committed...

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Hi Ben, Natalie seems to have given yu the best advice already. Get a doctors clearance....

You need to control your calorie intake so that you are eating a calorie deficit... of between 500 - 1000 calories less than your maintenance caliric intake is a healthy plan.

Build up to this... take about 6 weeks to form this routine because it is hard at first but you have to work through it and once you do... you get depressed if you miss a day........ do cardio every day for 45 mins ... for 6 days a week if you prefer. Your working heart rate is (220 - your age) x 80% = Working heart rate. Try not to exceed it.. but try to reach it... this keeps you relatively safe.

Weight lifting... Try to do this 3 - 4 times a week. Dont try to lift big weights... its easy to injure yourself and that will interfere with your routine..... if you are 240 pounds now you already have plenty of muscle mass otherwise you wouldn't be able to move around... so you are already strong... so go for high repetitions (15-20) and stick to lighter weights... but not so light that it doesn't burn... do 4 sets.... get a fitness trainer to work out a 5 week routine for you...show you what good form is required... and wing it from there... but pay to update the program every 5 weeks. If you can afford a fitness trainer full time.. that would be superior.

Good luck. Plenty of people in your situation work through it and people in the gym all start out either overweight or scrawny so generally you get nothing but encouragement.

This is great! Congratulations, you are making the right choice my deciding to lose weight in a healthy way. Here's what I recommend:

1) Visit your doctor. Talk to your doctor about your weight and your concern for your health. Any weight loss program you pursue should be with the support and supervision of your doctor. S/he can also refer you to a nutritionist, who can help you create healthy, balanced and satisfying meals.

2) Exercise a little bit every day. Start out slowly. Go for walks. Find a friend or family member to go with you. As you gain energy, add more to your workout. You should blend cardio and weight training. If you can afford a personal trainer, that would be ideal.

3) Drink water. You know how much, right? At least 8 glasses a day. Drink a glass before each meal. Carry a water bottle with you in the car or on the bus. It is so so important to stay hydrated, and to flush out toxins as you lose weight. It helps control your appetite, too.

4) Be gentle with yourself. Losing weight is not easy. You have to relearn a lot of habits. Don't berate yourself for being heavier than you like, praise yourself for taking control of your health and moving in the right direction. Be generous with yourself. If you like to snack late at night, buy a bunch of grapes instead of a carton of ice cream to prepare for your cravings. You know you're going to want to snack, so plan ahead and get yourself a healthier snack.

5) Speaking of snacks, try eating several healthy snacks throughout the day. This trick doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me. I carry a granola bar and a piece of fruit along with my water so I can have a bite whenever, wherever. That way, I'm not starving when mealtime comes around and load up on twice as much as I should.

Good luck!

I would imagine you are eating a lot of calories, therefore if you cut the amount of calories down by 500(which isn't a lot considering how much you may be consuming) you will loose weight instantly...also start off with light exercises such as briskly walking..and then move up to jogging for 15 minutes and so on..

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Go to a gym or a doctor that can talk to you through a healthy diet for YOU. Everyone's body is different, so get facts from people who really know.

Ok well maybe do a couple of sports with your friends like football. I highly reccomend you do football though because you burn a lot of calories. Do daily jogs in the mornings. For food you could always try lean cuzine it has always worked for me and it is tasty! If all else fails then see your doctor maybe they can help you.
=) Good luck and hope i helped you

Make sure you get your daily amount of water. Drinking more water helps your body, but it also keeps you more full so you eat less, but in a healthy way. It doesn't mean you stop eating, it just helps you control portions to a healthier level.

You need to change your life style of eating. Go to the Doc. and see if you are healthy. The biggest change I did was stop drinking Pop.
