Let me absolutely and perfectly clear regarding the historic and indisputable facts concerning Ratzinger and Adolf Hitler.
1. Ratzinger was a member of the Hitler Youth- the most elite and prestigious group of young people in Nazi Germany up until 1945.
2. No one was ever drafted to the Hitler Youth. It was an honor above all others to be a member and millions of German youth tried and failed. Only those who had "pure Aryan" bloodlines and were fervantly pro-Nazi could ever join.
3. The only way Ratzinger could ever become a member of the Hitler Youth was to willingly join. Any other statement by Catholic apologists, spin doctors and pr agents is simply and deliberately contrary to historic and well documented fact.
4. There is no way the Catholic Church can explain away the fervant pro-Nazi position of Ratzinger as a youth, nor his imprisonment as a POW member of the Nazis.
5. As far as how many non-Nazis the Pope killed, we will never know. Only God, Ratzinger and the dead know the truth and at this stage, I doubt any honesty regarding this subject will be forthcoming.
++Personal contact with Hitler++
As an early and willing member of the Hitler Youth, it is almost certain that Ratzinger met Hitler.
Whether they had any lengthy conversation we will also never know.
What is clear however if the overwhelming evidence that Catholic Hitler could not have gained or kept power without the financial, logistical and moral support of the Catholic Church and Pope Pius.

There is no direct connection of which I am aware.
As a teenager and young man, Pope Benedict XVI was drafted into the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German Army just like every other non-Jewish German male. He was not given a choice.
The Pope is not and never has been a Nazi. He unfortunately was born and grew up in a country ruled by the Nazi party.
Every draftee into the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German Army was not a Nazi.
Thank God that you and I live in a very different world that the Pope did in 1930s and 1940s Germany. Or do we?
With love in Christ.

Benedict XVI? The connection is that he was a boy in Germany during Hitler's reign. He was six when Hitler became Chancellor, and had been eighteen for only two weeks when Hitler committed suicide.

all evidence points to rumor.
If anything Pope Pius XII was guilty of turning a blind eye to Hitler's atrocities until it was too late. Ineffectual spiritual leadership and a powerful facist force caused more harm than the papacy.
Hitler was a pagan occultist, pure and simple. He used the church in Rome as he used many institutiosn to spread fear, paranoia and hate ... but I don't believe the papacy actually colluded with him.

I think the difference is that the Pope doesn't really have any power in Africa, does he? While Hitler did have power over people.

Joseph Ratzinger was in the militairy in Nazi Germany and served as a guard. As for the Pope in power during Hitler's reign, he did not loudly protest Nazi Germany's actions and inside Poland there were many priests active on the side of Germany and involved in running concentration camps.

well it's true that the catholic church protected a lot of nazis and other fascists and helped them get out of europe. they sometimes collaborated with the fascist dictatorships in europe (espcially in croatia and the rest of yugoslavia). it's also true that pius xii never publicly criticized hitler or mussolini or any of the other fascist dictators. however, a number of priests did help jews hide from and escape the holocaust. their aid was often predicated on the jews being baptized though.

I don't believe there was any communication between them, but the Pope turned his back on what Hitler was doing, allowing it to happen....not that he could have done much about it --- other than saying, "shame on you!"

Few people remember that Adolph Hitler was Pope for several years. He left the throne in disgust one day when he realized that most of his Cardinals were Jewish.
