it takes about six hours with a normal train but with that new high-speed train it takes about 3-4 hours, you don't have to show a passport when you buy a ticket but they do random checks on the train

They won't check when you buy your ticket. They may or may not check on the train (probably yes). You don't necessarily need a passport, in some cases a national ID card with picture is enough.
