My wife and I are both on a diet but are seeing a difference in weight loss. I am 100lbs overweight and my wife is 70lbs overweight. While both of us are eating exactly the same food (Healthy food) we are eating less than 1500 calories and 30g of fat a day. I am also exercising everyday on a running machine while my wife is not. My wife's job involves her sitting at a desk all day while I am not, so on Saturday when we weighed ourselves, my wife lost 4.5lbs and I lost only 2.5lbs, can someone give me a real explanation on why this might of happened, and please no straight answers like it depends on your metabolism or something.

i think you are eating way too little which causes water weight loss and muscle loss and also slows down metabolism.
you both need different amount of calories a day.
you might have gained muscle while your wife lost it (more muscle=faster metabolism) so in a few weeks (if you keep eating not enough) you will be losing more than your wife.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Women carry more water weight naturally. During your first weigh in, it's possible that she lost fat plus water. Men typically would be carrying less to begin with.
