This expression came from the New Testament, in which Jesus was casting out demons, and the people who saw it were astounded, for no one had ever had such power before.
The Pharisees, religious leaders of the time who were envious of Jesus, told the people that Jesus was casting out demons by the power of Ba'alzebub, the disgusting Dung god of the city of Ekron of the Philistines, ancient enemies of Israel.
Jesus told them that this was blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, namely calling the Holy Spirit a demon, or calling the works of the Holy Spirit the works of Satan. It is the only sin that Jesus said will never be forgiven.

Blasphemy
In the sense of speaking evil of God this word is found in Ps. 74:18; Isa. 52:5; Rom. 2:24; Rev. 13:1, 6; 16:9, 11, 21. It denotes also any kind of calumny, or evil-speaking, or abuse (1 Kings 21:10; Acts 13:45; 18:6, etc.). Our Lord was accused of blasphemy when he claimed to be the Son of God (Matt. 26:65; comp. Matt. 9:3; Mark 2:7). They who deny his Messiahship blaspheme Jesus (Luke 22:65; John 10:36).
Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matt. 12:31, 32; Mark 3:28, 29; Luke 12:10) is regarded by some as a continued and obstinate rejection of the gospel, and hence is an unpardonable sin, simply because as long as a sinner remains in unbelief he voluntarily excludes himself from pardon. Others regard the expression as designating the sin of attributing to the power of Satan those miracles which Christ performed, or generally those works which are the result of the Spirit's agency.

In gospel of Thomas: Jesus said, "whoever blasphemes against the father will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the son will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit will not be forgiven, either on earth or in heaven" In my mind blaspheme of the holy spirit is shutting down your heart and denying the guidance within your own self you know to be true. Not listening to yourself. Allowing your lower instincts and impulses to be in charge of your life, like a animal. The father and the son are just mental concepts the holy spirit is real you can feel it. It might be silent and intangible, but it is our only tool to find ourselves, the kingdom or whatever other concept you want to make up.....I wish you well S

Blaspheming the holy spirit, which involves deliberately working against Jehovah’s purposes, constitutes an unforgivable sin.—Mark 3:29.
Even where there were no spoken expressions against God, one’s actions against the laws of God’s covenant evidently could amount to “speaking abusively of Jehovah” or a blaspheming of him. Thus, while merciful consideration was given to the unintentional violator of God’s law, the individual committing deliberate, willful offenses, whether native Israelite or alien resident, was to be put to death as having spoken abusively of Jehovah and as having despised his word and commandment.—Nu 15:27-31; compare De 31:20; Ne 9:18, 26.
TODAY: People unintentionally are guilty of this because of their ignorance in not understanding the scriptures, therefore not bringing their lives into harmony with God's purpose and will. So that's why Jesus said (Matthew 7:13-14) . . .“Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; 14 whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.

I have found this question best answered by a pastor by the name of J. Harold Smith. He is a highly revered pastor that died a few years ago. He preached a sermon which a lot of people believe to be is the most powerful message they have ever heard . It is called Gods three deadlines...one of which is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
"Google" J. Harold Smith, Gods three deadlines, and listen to this message. I promise you it will answer all your questions about this.
I hope you take the time to do this.
God bless

Mark 3:28-30, "Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation, because they said, "He has an unclean spirit."
." Attributing the power of the Holy Spirit and the miracles Jesus performed to the devil was a sin most reprehensible and would not be forgiven. Consider that God, the Almighty Creator of the universe, was displaying just a small fraction of his power in the presence of man, the lowly creature, and man in all of his arrogance had concluded that this was not a manifestation of God's power but that of the devil.

When people lie or belittle or rebell against the Holy Spirit. Such as, God would not do this or that. Acts 2:38, says that when we turn from our sins and are baptized in the name of Jesus for the payment of our sins, then God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit. We become a new creature. That is why we are called "Born Again." If we refuse to do what the Bible tells us to do and or lead others from doing what the Bible tells them to do, than we are not forgiven of this sins because God can not give us Himself to us because we have refused to obey Him to allow Him access into our lives. That is why Jesus warned us very severely.
May you walk in the fullness of Christ.

It is to attribute the works of the Holy Spirit to satan. When Jesus was performing miracles, some witnesses openly said that Jesus was casting out demons using demons, and were therefore calling these miracles performed by Jesus through the Holy Spirit satanic in origin. Big no-no.

The closer meaning to blasphemy in this case would be simply sin. Let me explain. One of the objectives of the work of the Holy Spirit is to reveal sin in people's lives, to convict them of guilt and bring them to repentance. Think of it as thermometer which shows you you have fever so that you know you are sick and go to the doctor. Now, if you deny that, deny what the thermometer is showing you, you will not go to the doctor and thus cannot be healed. This is why if someone opposes the work of the Holy Spirit in their life, there is no other hope for them.
