And would it be worth it to try anyway, even if the time together was shorter than you personally recomended?

atleast 2years.....but sometimes, the strongest couple that has been together forever can break.

I'd say over 2 years, maybe 5? Definitely don't do it before 2, it takes time to realllllly know someone, before having to survive without them on a different continent. Getting comfortable with the relationship, and with yourself is important.
Long distance is really hard. Ive tried it. But if its only for a year, and it's manageable with trips, then I could see how it could be done.

time makes no difference. its about how much you care about each other and if your willing wait on each other. its also abotu weither this is the person you see in your future when that year is over and long after that.
relationships are really meant for people who seek a commitment through marriage. if this is not the person you see yourself commited to then what is the point of making them wait or even being in this relationship as it is. if you are unsure about weither this is ther person you want to come back to after a year away i would say you need to let them go.

i dont know about a young couple --- my lady is young i am a lot older yet we have never met and we have been talking for 12 months now --- as long as you are honest and faithful and prepared to work out the problems then it can stay strong --- best wishes

A minute or a lifetime. It depends on the couple and their mutual commitment to one another and their relationship.
