I have a six wk old jack russell terrier and this is his second night here. I have him in a 35 gal tub bin that you would put clothes in.. last night he whined and whimpered and tonight he's doing the same. How long will he be doing this and should me telling him now and pushing him to stay down and be quiet help?

At six weeks he should still be with mom and siblings. In most states it is illegal to sell a pup before 8 weeks.
Get a crate. Put warm towels (from dryer) in there, a ticking clock sometimes helps or soft music. He's lonely and scared; he does not need punishment at this point, he needs to be consoled...

Jack Russells are not the breed for inexperienced pet owners. Do some on-line research and consult with your vet. Why do you have a puppy at only 6 weeks old? You need to invest in a good dog crate, he will feel safer and have a place where he won't get into trouble. Jack Russells are smart, but stubborn and very active. You don't want him jumping out of the tub while you are sleeping. He could get hurt. Pushing a puppy down is not going to teach him, he is frightened and needs to know he is safe. He will need many nights of you reassuring him that he is safe in his crate.

Well, first of all, he shouldn't be away from his mother and littermates until he's at least 8 weeks old. He is missing out on a critical time when he should be learning socialization and other skills from his mother and littermates. Of course he's going to whine and cry(all puppies usually do their first few night away from "home"), he was taken from his mother too early, and the more you give him attention and fool with him the more he will do it because he will realize every time he makes a noise, you will come back over to him and give him attention. He also should have a dog crate appropriate for his size(big enough he can lay down, turn around and stand up) to sleep in and be his safe place...not a rubbermaid tub.

I'm assuming you didn't do much research before you got a puppy because you seem pretty ill-prepared for dog-ownership. You should have read up on crate training, house training, puppy behavior, researched the breed you wanted and found a reputable breeder (that doesn't let pups go at 6 weeks!) BEFORE you went and purchased a puppy. I would advise you to start reading up, talking to experienced dog owners, and learning about puppy ownership and training. Also, you have a terrier...many of them can be highly prey driven and must be well socialized to be a good member of the community. Good luck.

There is no such thing as a miniature Jack Russell Terrier. There are Puddins (aka Shorties) which are the long bodied, short legged variant of the REAL Jack Russell Terrier. But no, they are not better behaved. They're the same. They are kinda smaller than the actual Jrt. But its mainly due to their shorter legs.

THIS IS A BABY PUPPY!!!!
i am not sure what sort of whack job breeder you got this pup from from but it is way too young to be away from its mother!!!!

i breed own and show rat terriers. my pups do not leave until they are 8-10 weeks old. some time much longer if needed. my pets pups do not leave unless they are altered to prevent unwanted litters.

this is a baby, would you go into a room and yell at a 6 week old baby to shut up? then what are you thinking even contemplating pushing him and yelling at him?

go buy a dog crate...buy a Kong brand puppy toy. and find a trainer in your area. you will have your hands full REAL soon this pup will most like suffer from separation anxiety and other emotional issue mom was supposed to be teaching it including house breaking issues and biting.

have fun!!

Babies want to sleep next to a warm body. Plan on alot of sleepless nights in the beginning. Try and put him in bed with you and take him out to pee pee 3-4 times during the night so he knows where he is to go. Put a small blanket that is "his" and put it next to you and he should sleep well. Remember, this is all new to him and 6 weeks is really to young to be away from his mommy. 8 weeks is much better, so plan on being "mommy" for a few weeks. Give him a soft belly rub and he will love you.

I would for sure invest in a kennel first of all. Second, he will wine for a while. Make sure he can see you when he is in it this seems to comfort them. Try a warm watter bottle wrapped in a towel. He is used to being with his bros and sisters and they are warm. When he wines don't take him out every time. But you will have to get up every hour or two unless he is asleep and let him do his business. He is very young so he needs lots of care. You can also try putting a clock wrapped in a towel in with him when he sleeps. They seem to think that it is a hearbeat like his mothers.

at least 2-3 weeks possibly longer. It all depends on if you are consistent and let the pup get used to his surroundings or if you put him in the bed some nights. And if you decide to place the puppy in your bed with you if you do not wake up and take him out to go to the bathroom you will wake up in a nice puddle of pee.

He'll do it for as long as you'll give him attention for it. Stop giving him any attention when he whines, even negative attention, or he'll just keep whining.
