This has happened to me before from sleeping on my side, it made my upper body out of place and in sort of need of an adjustment. You can do a couple of things. Sit on a chair with a low back and then stretch backwards over the chair to try to sort of "crack" it into place. Or you can try stretching movies by using your arm on a wall then stretching the shoulder blade/chest in the opposite direction. Sometimes you hear a "pop" and it pops back into place or you keep stretching it and it'll eventually feel better. A chiropractor may not be a bad thing. I love them, went on and off since I was a kid. Other issues you can look into as well: If you think it's an actual muscle pull (which would hurt like none other) then see a doctor for an MRI or something to look at tears and while you're there make sure they rule out any heart problems. As far as creams: I would skip that b/c that just covers up the problem and too much cream (daily use) can cause death (it happened to a teenager recently). If you go the cream route, I'd say natural Arnica oil or cream is good.

It sounds like your dad is having some muscle spasms from the wetness & wind. He should see a good chiropractor. What you can do at home is apply some moist heat for 10-15 minutes at a time, about every hour or two. When you feel his back and shoulder areas, if you can feel tight muscles, you need to push gently, but firmly on them to "break" them up. You can do this in a circular motion on each area where you feel a muscle spasm. It will be tender when you do it, but it will help.

Excruciating back pain would not be caused by walking in a wet shirt. He could be having symptoms of a heart attack, he needs to go to the doctors.
Pain in the left side of the body or back, especially in a man can indicate heart problems.
Please get your dad some help, you do not want to take the chance of him having a heart attack.

Chest pain can radiate to the back and down the left arm. A wet shirt would not cause this pain, however, if he had a respiratory problem it may have made it worse. This type of pain, any pain, is caused by a problem. He may not want to go to the doctor, but it could ward off problems that could debilitate him.

He needs to go to the doctor. This kind of pain isn't normal, and could even be a sign of a heart attack. Tell him you want to spend Father's Day with him this year and for many more years to come, and then put him in the car and drive to the clinic. If he argues with you about it, ignore him and take him to the clinic anyway. Men hate to the go the doctor. It's a birth defect. But they still have to go when they're not feeling well.

Four ibuprofen tablets, twice daily. Don't baby the arm. Get plenty of rest. Drink a lot of water. Make your dad promise to see a doctor if this regimen doesn't help him in five days.

It sounds like he may have pulled a muscle. Try putting heat on it if you haven't already.

Maybe he had a stroke. Or it could be something that happens before a stroke. He should go to the doctor.
