I am so sad. Everyday I wake up searching for my purpose here on earth. I already decided I was going to help people.. aid them.. maybe join the red cross and i will.. i am working a part time job to aid a child in a different country this summer before i start my sophomore year of college. anyway.. i am becoming a midwife nurse to aid babies and mothers... but my dream is becoming a hollywood actress.. because it is what i have wanted to do all my life.. and not only that.. my salary can help me aid a lot of people... but im discouraged because of all the competition out there and i have never done anything.. i cry because i want to travel the world.. and have the chace to help people.. individuals. i dont know why i want to help so much i just want to.. and it makes me upset im not anyone and cant help... my fav. actress is Angelina Jolie because she basically reflects what i want to do in life.. but she has a chance to help and i dont... sometimes i pretend i have the money to help.

i pretend that i will make it.. only to be put down by family members... because even though i can barely aid myself i want to help others.....
but the truth is i have enough even though i am not even middle class in the usa.... i have enough.. i am wealthy.. considering the fact that many people accross the world can feed their families with just a dollar a day. i have enough.... im not dying... or in extreme poverty.. and people need help.. and i wanna help.. i wont save the world.. but i want to help.. i feel so bad i cant.. i dont wanna sound dramatic but please... take a look at the real world... and look beyond what u are taught everyday.. this world gets harder eveyday.. people are dying!

EVERYONE has a purpose. I know how it feels to be depressed and hurt and want to do so much more than you are. But you need to know that God designed you JUST the way that you are, and He has a purpose for every minute of your life. I will never push a belief on anyone, but I feel the need to share the only thing that has ever helped me with those feelings, and that is God. Because of Him, I am NEVER alone. Because of what He promises in the Bible, I know that I have a purpose:

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares, the Lord, plans to prosper you and NOT to harm you. To give you hope, and a future." --Jeremiah 29:11

Pray to Him..ask Him for the help and the motivation to do these things that you want to do. Ask him to show you the true happiness and joy that only He can give. It's the only way to ever feel fulfilled, is living for Him. I feel so much for you, because I have been in the place that you are in, and still am there sometimes, but that's when I have to stop and just say "God, my life is in your hands, I need a change." He knows what you need, and He'll never leave you where you can't handle it.

Also, try and focus on where you are now. Live in the present. If you spend your time daydreaming that you're somewhere else, you miss the journey of getting there. Each day is one step closer to your dream. Make the very most of it.

I hope this helps...take care.

Hey don't be so hard on yourself. Don't expect so much of yourself; you are only young yet. But you are aware that others out there are in so much more dire straits than you are. You say you are going to join the Red Cross. That is excellent, they do a lot to help people.

Can you knit or crochet or sew? You can make things for hospitals or charities this way. There are a lot of charities that need things made for them to help others - some charities help mothers with premature babies; some help Native Americans on the reservation in SD. You could try this also.

You say you want to help mothers and babies. What about going to your local hospital and finding out if they need volunteer helpers in the children's or babies' wards.

You are also working part time to help a child in another country. You are doing very well to do this at your age and should be proud of this accomplishment.

If you really want to be an actress and have talent, then don't give up your dream. But being a midwife is very important, the first "contact" so to speak for the mother and the new baby. So if you cannot become an actress, don't become discouraged. Keep on doing what you are doing now and you will definitely help others. Good luck with your dreams.

I appreciate your desire to help others. But if you truly had a heart
to "serve" you could/would gladly do it where you are.I know the competition to be an actress is tough. But you wont find much competition to help others. It will be a polar opposite. The two don't really go hand in hand.If you want to help people and give of yourself you can do it any day.As far as finding purpose, maybe you are trying to fill a God shaped void with your own efforts.Try reading Proverbs for some straight up advice from King Solomon.Good luck and best wishes on helping others.

Keep searching for that purpose, but take it slow. You will figure it out. The best you can do right now is keep doing the right thing for the right reason. Many of us have dreams...ones that are much bigger than we could actually imagine. And that is good...it helps to keep our minds moving forward, but do not let it take over let you take what you already have, for granted. Your "searching" is a sign of success You want to help people, and do good for others. That's awesome...you are one step ahead already. I honestly feel that if we do the right thing, and our motives are generated by sincere truth, opportunities and answers will be given to us in full abundance. As far as helping people, and making a difference....if you bring a smile to one person a day...you are doing fine. Be patient with yourself...and try to find meaning and positiveness in everything you do. One day at a time.

I feel the same. I have an appointment with a therapist next week. I do not believe that we can talk away what we feel needs to be done. It is so overwhelming I suffer at the thoughts. I want to help, like you, but seem to get shut down. I think sometimes we have to just help the closest person we can find. The job is too big , to save the world. Even with Anjelina's millions, many more die. Pray for them.

Set short term goals for yourself instead of long term goals. Right now you are helping people one person at a time. They say "you save the world one person at a time. Looking too far into the future can be discouraging for anybody. I admire you for your convictions. I wish more people were like you. Keep doing what you are doing and good things will happen for you. Maybe even as an actress!

Most of times Hollywood life shows only glamorous people but inside them there are a lot of depressed situations they're dissatisfaction with their lives, so don't put your hope in being like them. Think in other options
