Good question. There are so many couples that use IVF that get upwards of 6 or more embryos out of one treatment. They won't implant that many, and sometimes, especially if they have a multiple birth, they don't want the remaining embryos, so they are just thrown out. If that's the case, I would rather have the embryos do some good for us. Why not use them to help others?

I feel the same about aborted fetuses. There will always be abortion, and even though I am against abortion, why not have those fetuses go for good too? I would rather see that then those poor little ones just being thrown out, which is what they do with aborted fetuses.

I do think that cord blood is the best possible idea. The only problem right now is the price to store it. I checked into it for my kids, and it's over 4k just to collect and store it. I don't know that many people that can afford that. There is also a storing fee to have them store it for you. Yes, the cost would be nothing if you are talking about curing leukemia, or diabetes.

My hubby is diabetic. If there was a way for us to cure that, I would do it! Right now, stem cell transplant are really expensive, and not covered under most insurance plans, so having it done is pretty much not worth it.

If we are talking about one of my kids, we would do anything possible to save them. At that point, I wouldn't even question where the cells came from. If it will work, DO IT!!!

I think that all this is really inspired of God. I don't think He would have a problem with any of it. If He did, I'm sure the idea wouldn't have worked.

Ok. This is really several issues.

1. Research after repeatable research has shown that adult stem cells work just as well, & in some cases better than embryonic stem cells. So I would have absolutely no problem with adult stem cell research or use. My child would receive the 'cure'.

2. Natural Selection is the biological process of culling out the unfit from a select group of animals, not humans, so that only the fittest survive long enough to pass on their soma. As medicine has progressed, so has the percentage of humans recovering from what was once deadly.

3. No where has God ever told anyone not to use medical help for what ever ails them. God is the one that gave us the ability to think, learn, study, do research, etc. However, not everything is ethical. That which isn't I wouldn't use.

4. God loves all of us more than our little brains can possible understand. He always wants what is best for us & sometimes we just can't conceive of what that is. I know that I can hardly stand to wait to go to Heaven; a place where there is no sickness, no sadness, no anger, no fighting, no rudeness, etc. I would miss my child very much if God decided to take one of them away from me, but I would also remember that God has only loaned that child to me to raise for Him, that He NEVER does something TO us that isn't the best FOR us & that He loved my child & me enough to die for us.

My opinion may have been different in years past but right now it is this - if the stem cells have to come from embryos and those embryos only serve the purpose of donating cells, then I truly think that they - my child(ren) would be better off going to be with the Lord. That is because first of all, I do not believe in initiating life only to end it for this reason. I do not believe in ending anyone's life for any reason - I'm Christian and I DO NOT believe in the death penalty. I also think that the world is now so full of strife and anguish that life here is not the ultimate high. It is a very difficult road. Even so life is precious, whether it is from the first nano second of unity of sperm and egg or at the very far end of the spectrum - old age. Nobody except God has the right to decide the life and death of another.
Unfortunately war is a different story as there is a distinct difference between murder and killing. War is and always has been a necessity. But anyway, no, I'd rather not deal with the stem cell issue at all, even to save my own life. If they could find a way to synthesize them, that would be a different story.

I'm a Christian. I support stem cell research. I would prefer that the cells come from umbilical cord blood, or donated fertilized embryos from IVF procedures than from abortions.

I also believe that should my child(ren) become ill, I will take advantage of whatever scientific progress has been made to try to cure them. God gave me both free will and a brain. He also gave me a responsibility to look to the health and well being of the children He entrusted to my care.

And God also gave scientists brains to do their research with. Without that research, we wouldn't have organ transplants, bone marrow transplants, insulin....

And what djmom said makes sense too. The fact is that whether we like it or not, people are going to abort. At least with stem cell research, there's a chance of some good coming out of that. I seriously do not believe that stem cell research will result in women rushing out to have abortions en masse.

Through God, all things are possible.... including regrowth of an organ...........................................

I was born without one certain body part. This has caused a great hole and emptiness in my life. I know that stem cell work could fill this hole in my life. There is a (HUGE) part of me that would jump at this possibility if the cost weren't so prohibitive.

I see the value of stem cell research. I also am aware of the passage in Joel 2:28 (also quoted in Acts 2:17)- A promise that in the last days, many will receive knowledge from God... Maybe that's where the idea of stem cell research came from. I don't know, but it is a possibility.

I am for saving cord blood. Not too aware of exactly what stem cell research is but I'm not against it. And there are alot of opinions and things that christians don't agree on. Not all christians are the exact same. So just like christians people that aren't christians agree and disagree.

How can a Christan justify the life of one over another. We can't and that is why we are opposed to embryonic stem cell research. Did you know that most embryonic stem cell research so far has failed because of tumors? God is the only one who is over life and death. Some humans think because they are rich and power full that they can kill but they don't understand life eternal. God gives life to those who accept Him because He loves us. As a Christian I am not against adult stem cell research since it does not take a life.

The most recent articles I have read indicate that stem cells obtained from umbilical cords are as effective as those harvested from embryos. Since we have such a plentiful supply of umbilical cords, why would the question even need to be asked? I do not know of a woman who would not gladly allow her umbilical cord resulting from the birth of her child to save a strangers life, let alone one of her own.

In my opinion, God gave man an amazing amount of brain power. Man has been smart enough to come up with cures for many diseases and anecdotes for many of the world's ailments.I think God allowed there to be physicians so that they can do all in their power and expertise to tend to the bodily problems we humans face on earth. So if my child or anyone else for that matter needed a cure for any deadly disease, if stem cells were the answer then by all means would I choose it. Of course I would pray and consult God for this matter and if he didnt lead me otherwise then I would definetly choose it.

This is a hard question to answer for me. I do not believe in abortion. And most stem cell research is done with aborted babies if I remember correctly. Anyway, honestly I would probably choose the cure, because my kids are the world to me. Partly I believe that if people are going to abort babies anyway then perhaps some good use can come from it.
