The army gets the beans and the navy gets the gravy is the saying, so if you don't mind the marches go to the army, and if you get seasick, otherwise the navy is the place to be.

Actually it depends what you like. Army has more careers to choose from and Navy has great traditions. Both have their cons tho. Army will most likely send you someplace you don't want to go, and Navy will seal you up on a boat for 6 months at at time doing jobs you would rather not be doing.
You join the military because you want to serve, it sounds harsh but it's true. They both have the same benefits. Navy has great medical care, But Army always has the ability to get you where you need to be instantly. There may be a million army people but the system works within itself. The Navy is more sea oriented (as it should be), and your looking at long time being deployed on a ship. If you aren't claustrophobic that's great.
Really, talk to both recruiters and talk to ppl that have been in both. I have Navy uncles and Army relatives. Both swear they were in the Best service. Never mind my Marine and Airforce relatives too they all say the same thing. It's your choice and make sure you take advantage of all the websites and forums to learn more.
Blessings

Soldiers make promotions faster than sailors, so your pay will go up faster with those. Army may deploy you for a year, or it may be a few years before you see your first deployment. Even in peacetime, the Navy puts you on a ship for 6 months of each year while you are on a 3 year sea duty assignment. There are only so many places on a ship that you can go in those 6 months. Navy goes on deployments to the Persian Gulf just like Army, but the Navy is 6 months, the Army is a year (right now 15 months) Peacetime in Army you do field trainings that are a few weeks to a month or so long, but they are randomly scheduled as needed. There are training holidays (4 day weekends) to compensate for some of those lost weekends during training..

DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY!!! Join the Air Force, Navy, Marine corp, reserves, French Foriegn legion. Do whatever fits your fancy, but DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY!!! I have met very few people in the army who don't hate life. Say it with me now "DON"T JOIN THE ARMY" Why do you think they're recruiting so hard? 15 month deployments to Iraq, where you will work a job that will take the spirit right out of you, get sent back to the states, train and come back. Please do not ruin your life with the Army. DON"T JOIN THE ARMY. From what I've seen personally the Higher ups almost instinctively treat the lower ranks horrible. Most soldiers, tell me they wish they went Air Force or Navy. DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY!!!

why not Coast Guard , Air Force, Marines ? All I hear all day is these young men dieing because of a road side bomb. It's one thing to die for an idea--another to die because they told you to stand at the corner by a trash can that has a bomb in it. Something about 128 degrees in the summer standing in the sun waiting for something to happen. I did my time with pride. I've seen Iran, Iraq, Turkey and most of the Middle East. I would rather be active in doing my job everyday in the military---and not standing around waiting for something to happen.
Promoted ?!!, hey lady-- the reason why people in the Army get promoted faster is because the people around you are getting killed. It's not a very good reason on why you pick a service to go into.

Both offer benefits equal to one another. It depends on what specific occupation you're willing to help our country defend itself in. Find out what areas are your strong points and draw a list from both services. Either service is just as respectable as the other. The fact of the matter is that you're serving in the greatest military to have ever existed on this planet.

what interests you? find something you like and then find the service that provides that. Can't spend six months living on a ship in the Army but on the other hand you don't have to spend six months living on a ship if you're in the Army...get what I mean?
