The important thing about language is how you are communicating to people. In the New testament Paul tells us not to use vulgar or crude language. Many people consider those who use vulgar or crude language to be morally corrupt, uneducated and unrefined. This was true then as it is now.
The important thing about language is not the words you use, it is how other people hear those words. As someone pointed out you can use strong language and never cuss.
The rule I use is, am I offending someone? Is the language I am using hurting someone? If no then I use whatever I want including the "Seven words you can't say on television". If I am unsure or I know that the other person takes offense or is hurt easily I try and use words that do not hurt or offend.
Sometimes you can't say anything without hurting someone and at the same time you can't be silent either. That is a tough choice and everyone has a different place where this line is drawn.
So the answer is, yes, damn is offensive to some people and should be used with care.
Remember that we need to care about others as we care about ourselves and if we want to be offended the best way is to offend others.

I may not be the best person to answer this as I am not Christian, but in my experience 'damn' is not considered especially offensive. As a Christian, I would assume that the most offensive curse word would be taking the Lord's name in vain. All of this aside though, I do consider it still somewhat obscene. Saying the word 'damn' at work or school would not be appropriate, which is why I still consider it cussing. In my opinion, being Christian has little to do with this one.

It's the intent, not necessarily the word used. My kids know this & have tried to get around it by inventing new ones. They are still cuss words because that is how the kids use them. Certain words have been labeled as 'cussing' because they happen to be the ones most used that way.
The Bible says that our speech is to be sweet, or kind, controlled, etc. That leaves using any work in that context out. And remember, Christians won't be perfect until AFTER they get to Heaven. That's not to be taken as a license to do whatever they want though.

In my opinion as a Christian, if it is used as a cuss word, yes it is cussing and a bad thing. Would you want to be sending someone or something to be eternally damned? It is a word that means "to bring condemnation upon; ruin. -- to doom to eternal punishment or condemn to hell." I don't want to do that to anyone or anything. I know people still use it and don't think it is bad, some even use in Church to explain HELL, (eternal Damnation) but after being taught about it's true meaning, I have quit using it and will say it is cussing. It doesn't make them look any better then as Christians to keep using it either, but that is between them and GOD!
Talk to God and ask Him what he thinks is best for you to show others...God Bless.

expensive Sweetest, First i'm slightly curious as to why the question is addressed to Christians purely. i assume possibly some Christians have corrected you once you have used that word possibly? you're able to could desire to ask them in my opinion related to that. we've the cuss words we've right this moment because of the fact human beings have agred upon the meaning of that word. i've got heard believers use the word "pissed" before and usually i'm greater apprehensive approximately why they're "pissed, offended, ticked off, and so on." than as to utilising that word. there is not any doctrine or church stance or something interior the Christian community with regard to using that word. So i do no longer think of anybody could desire to grant you a honest and prevalent answer as to why some Christians regard it as a foul word mutually as others will possibly no longer. different words like the f word, s word, and so on. are in deed undesirable words. Christians do adhere to the incontrovertible fact that the tongue could nicely be the two a source of blessing or cursing. they're to construct others up with their words and not tear them down. usually Christians anger could desire to be related to social injustices and problems with that type... so usually why and what they're "pissed" approximately is greater substantial than the incontrovertible fact that they use that word... i'm hoping that helps. Here's a unique Christian answer for you - our 'curse' words are merely words. When the Bible speaks of cursing it is referring to that which a sorcerer would do or when you tell someone to go to hell, that is cursing. Saying the four letter words that so many of my dear brothers and sisters fret over should they let one slip will not send anyone to hell. This is not to say that I promote obnoxious language, I just don't think it is a sin to s**t once in a while, especially when God is more concerned about me loving my fellow man.

only if you dam a person, such as damn you, but damn is used other ways..alot of cuss words are heard on T.V. anymore, what gets me is when they blink out the word hell or sh-t but yet they can say god- d, even go as far as saying Christ..,I have heard many Christians (including the preacher's wife) in a church I grew up in cuss, they said hell and damn, one of the guys who went there to the church a nice Christian guy who took us home, had nude books in his front seat, so guess what even Christians aren't prefect, that was a site to see for a kid back then, lol blessings

I think the word by its self is not a cuss word--it can be a cuss word if used in conjunction with the Lords name. Again what is the contextual meaning

Many of the "cuss" words are slang expressions. They are CRUDE and RUDE but do not cause much harm except to offend those that do not wish to hear them.
Combining GOD with a slang expression is not a good practice.

As far as I know, you're just not supposed to take the Lord's name in vain. Other than that, most other "cuss" words are given their alternative, derogatory meanings by humans.
