He died in Hong Kong during just before the release of Enter the Dragon and while he was working on and off with his unfinished movie with a Master at each level of the Pagoda.
He went to his friends house where he lied down with a head ache and died of a brain Anuerism possibly.
This is what official records have to say on it.
"On July 20, 1973, Lee was in Hong Kong, due to have dinner with former James Bond star George Lazenby, with whom he intended to make a film. According to Lee's wife Linda, Lee met producer Raymond Chow at 2 p.m. at home to discuss the making of the movie Game of Death. They worked until 4 p.m. and then drove together to the home of Lee's colleague Betty Ting Pei, a Taiwanese actress who was to have a leading role in the film. The three went over the script at her home, and then Chow left to attend a dinner meeting.
A short time later, Lee complained of a headache, and Ting Pei gave him an analgesic. At around 7:30 p.m., he laid down for a nap. After Lee did not turn up for dinner, Chow came to the apartment but could not wake Lee up. A doctor was summoned, who spent ten minutes attempting to revive him before sending him by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. However, Lee was dead by the time he reached the hospital. There was no visible external injury; however, his brain had swollen considerably, from 1,400 to 1,575 grams (a 13% increase). Lee was thirty-two years old. On October 15, 2005, Chow stated in an interview that Lee was allergic to Equagesic. When the doctors announced Bruce Lee's death officially, it was coined as "Death by Misadventure."
Another theory is that he died from an allergic reaction to marijuana, which he was consuming at the time in hashish form. [20]. This is controversial, but it is confirmed that the coroner did find traces of the substance during his autopsy. [21] [22]
However, the exact details of Lee's death are controversial. Bruce Lee's iconic status and unusual death at a young age led many people to develop many theories about his death. Such theories about his death included murder involving the triads, a curse on Lee and his family, etc. The theory of the curse carried over to Lee's son Brandon Lee, also an actor, who died 20 years after his father in a bizarre accident while filming The Crow.

Upon his death his wife, Linda, returned to her home town of Seattle and had Bruce buried at lot 276 of Lakeview Cemetery. His son Brandon is buried beside him. Pallbearers at his funeral on July 31, 1973 included Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Dan Inosanto, Taky Kimura, Peter Chin, and his brother, Robert Lee. To this day, over 30 years after his death, fresh flowers are found on his gravestone every day.
Tom Bleeker, ex-husband of Linda Lee Cadwell (Bruce's widow) wrote a Book entitled "Unsettled Matters" which claimed that Bruce had used steroids in his lifetime. Bleeker offered a $25,000 reward for anyone who could confirm his findings in his book. To this day, no one has challenged the claim or collected the cash reward."
I hope this helps answer your question.

During the filming of "Game of Death," Bruce Lee got an headache and borrowed some painkillers from a friend. He then went to another room to lay down. While he was napping, he suffered an allergic reaction to the painkiller. When friends came in to wake him up, it was too late. He died on the way to the hospital.
It's not a glamorous end, but it's in the medical record.

As far as I know there isn't a reason for death for Bruce Lee yet. The theory I always heard was that the highups in the Chinese culture (maybe Chinese mafia?) were mad that Bruce was giving away Chinese secrets by teaching Americans martial arts. I heard that the current belief is that it was poison, but that the substance can't be identified (more Chinese secret conspiracy).
This at least is what my old college roommate that was a fan of martial arts movie always said.

His movie Enter the Dragon had just become a box office success and he was now an internationally recognized star, so much so that it got to his head and he became swell headed. Unfortunately, his head swelled too big and so he died because of it : P Ok! ok! I made it up, Fenriswulf gave the official report about Bruce's demise. Any other answer is based on speculation.

it was during a filming of one of the last episodes of the green hornet. Lees character ,Kato was supposed to be shot in one of the scenes. mysteriously the live take of the sequence had live ammunition. The shot was fatal. Some believe it was a Chinese mafia hit. Lees son Brandon went the same way many years later on the set of the second crow film I believe. since they often shoot the end first, that's the only scenes that are actually his and the rest are various doubles.

I was told by someone who I regard as one of the most knowledgeable people in Asian history and culture that, to put it extremely simply, he died of a lack of sex. Mr. Lee had a tremendous amount of control in "that" area and basically held everything in, and I mean EVERYTHING, to the point where he basically exploded from the inside out. It sounds crazy but I know I'm missing something that she explained to me. She explained it so much better in regards to how our bodies are like mini universes and that everything must work together and when something is so out of whack it can have a major affect on everything else.
