Everytime someone goes through something they don't want to go through, or have a near-death experience, they want to call upon God. But before that, they don't even think about Him. What's up with that?

Of course I can't speak for EVERYONE as in EVERYONE; but I know and have heard of lots of people doing this, so I asked people's opinions on it.

Because man thinks he doesn't need anyone and could do it all himself.

Once he finds himself in a real pickle, he realizes that he needs something bigger than himself, his friends and family. God was just patiently standing there waiting for him to realize it and call upon Him.

The real key to spirituality is when you realize you are not what you think you are and that you need God in your life.

Many people today (especially those who have everything given to them on a silver platter) think they got it on their own. They therefore assume they have no need of the creator. When a they face a crises they have no control over they realize its time to ask God's help.Even the non-rich can rebel against God and seek God when they are in crises. Many will pray to God to get something for them but God isn't an errand runner.God is the King of Kings.

Because when they are in deep trouble they realize that the only way to find true happiness is in God since nothing else is working for them: not money, not success, not power. As for those who have near-death experiences, they are probably grateful to God that they are still alive and they realize how fragile life is so they try to turn around their life by becoming believers. I cant really say since ive never had a near-death experience.

You are wrong. I have been in life-threatening situations, and it did not cause me to suddenly become delusional.

I'm not the only one:

"There ARE in fact many “Atheists in foxholes” who have served and are serving our country proudly, in all branches of the armed forces. In fact, nearly thirty million Americans do not profess a religious belief. This group includes many people who describe themselves as Atheists, Freethinkers, Secular Humanists or with other appellations."

MAAF is a community support network that connects military members from around the world with each other and with local organizations. In addition to our community services, we take action to educate and train both the military and civilian community about atheism in the military and the issues that face us. Where necessary, MAAF identifies, examines, and responds to insensitive practices that illegally promote religion over non-religion within the military or unethically discriminate against minority religions or differing beliefs. MAAF supports Constitutional State-Church Separation and 1st Amendment rights for all service members. We also coordinate with other national organizations who hold the same values."

I think there are a lot of people that talk to God on a daily basis for the good and the bad. I know that I am thankful when things are good, but I also want to know that I am not alone or abandoned when things are bad. I think people get scared when they are in trouble and they want to know they are not alone...

.Maybe because deep in their hearts they really know that He is the only one who can really help them, although they won't admit it.
I rely on Him all the time, through the good and the bad. And you know what is so awesome about Him? He will be there every time for each one of those people every time they call for Him! He's a Mighty Awesome God!!!

Sometimes you have to fall on your face, before you will except his grace. Because most people don't realize the power and mercy of the Lord until they are in trouble.

God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

Bless You.

There are a lot of atheists who have been in foxholes, getting shot at who total disagree with you.

When I am in trouble I concentrate on how I am going to get myself out of it. Not waste my time pleading to an non-existent ex-war god.
