Did you know cooking and cleaning are not duties for muslim women? What do you think of this quote and the accompanying site?

"A very big misconception held by many non-Muslims about Islam is that married women are supposed to clean and cook for the family. However this is not the case! The Prophet Mohammed used to sew his own clothes, he even used to cook for the family members, he used to work hard to provide for the family, govern the affairs of the Muslims and he also used to partake in all his household activities. He once said, "The greatest treasure on this Earth is a pious believing woman and the best amongst you is the one who is best to the members of his household." (Bukhari & Muslim) Islam teaches humanity to love respect and form a deep understanding with your spouse, and to always treat them well."

yep. its a big misunderstood, even by modern muslim women. muslim men are supposed to provide everything : money, necessities, luxury...even chores. cooking and cleaning. a woman's duties are only to treat him as husband and take good care of the households (husband and children's needs)

Every religion has a time where their religion is looked down upon and criticised: its Islam's turn. As a muslim I find it sickening and disturbing when I watch the media take Islam and turn it inside out, and totally butcher the religion! But to answer the question: No it is a "duty" for women to clean and cook. Most peole would be surprised to understand that Islam is not really an evil religion, its actually a very peaceful religion. Sadly, there have been many people who are dishonoring it,by "killing people in the name of Allah." Those people are the evil people, not Islam. Don't judge millions of people based on the actions of just a handful of ugly, ugly people. Wow..I kinda went of topic with this question sorry- its just something that I feel strongly about!

This is just a steriotypical idea that mostly non-Muslims have. Islam has honored Muslim women in every way. Women in the Prophet's time were participating in wars, they were working as nurses trying to save the lives of those injured. Who thinks this job is not important? In my opinion, it is as important as fighting itself.

I don't know why non-Muslims always imagine a muslim woman draped from head to toe in black enclosed in four walls terrified out of her wits scrubbing the floor.

I mean, it is just not true!!! I know so many Muslim woman (including my mom) who have hired domestic help and had gone with their hobbies and intrests. My cousin does a tob job in USA and her husband is so religious he tries to avoid looking at woman all together if he can.

A man who wish to get married have to take all the responsibilities of the woman, feeding, (cooking is on the man's responsibility), wearings (buying, washing is on the man's responsibility, etc... all by himself, this is the ruling in the noble religion of Islam, even if the wife works the man has no rights on her salaries.

It's nice to hear something other than the stereotypes that get posted by people filled with hate. Look at the pastor's answer above... I'm glad he's not my pastor, spreading lies and hate like that. That's not very Christ like.

One of his wives was only 6 years old.

Did you really expect a 6 year old to cook?
