I went from Korea to Germany when I was in. I loved them both. If you do it you shouldn't regret it. I would say travel as much as you possibly can. take advantage of any three or four day passes you can get. use the MWR for weekend getaways. use the train. go to France and Italy and anywhere you can possibly afford. you will never get another chance like it again in your life. hopefully you are single. that makes things a lot easier (finances and spare time). I was stationed in Wiesbaden for 2 years. that's a pretty great place to be. It's close to Frankfurt, Mainz, Heidelberg. I was also an exchange student in southern Germany which is awesome. I don't really know of any military bases down there, but if you can get to the black Forest and Switzerland don't miss that. The world is your oyster. take advantage of it. one more thing to remember, make a valid effort to speak the language. you'll find life a lot easier when on the economy. you'll also find out that most Germans actually do speak English. when they see you making a valid effort they will do all they can for you. they are very proud of their country and want you to see it, but would just as soon ignore a dumb American.
Good luck!

When you get to the 21st replacement. Insist that they send you to a "great unit" If you keep insisting they will hold you over. It happened to me. I was scheduled to go to Bremerhaven. I said. don't you have anything better?, they told me to wait.
If you need or want to go to Airborne school you won't find that in Germany. You need to put in for it NOW. Your orders can be changed.
If you just say you want to go to Airborne school and you are trying to fleece the Army, it won't work. You worded your question a bit odd which is why I am asking this.
Germany is a beautiful place and there's no reason to be scared of going there. There's great food, great people and the people you meet in your unit will bond with you immensely because you are all foreigners. Having said that, learn a bit of German and the Germans will extend their friendship to you. Best place I ever was.
Blessings and thank you for serving.

Germany is a great country but i like england more lol. No sriously take the offer up i know men that have had germany on there wist list for 10 yrs and never been sent there and i know men that never wanted to go to Germany and get stationed there! Most of the bases are really nice some are a bit drab such as vilseck, graf (Bavaria) Nurenberg is a really nice city. near the czech border (they are however building a huge px there) where if you get stationed in k town or manhihem or places like that its close to frankfurt but where ever you go in germany you will have a great time.

You original start lines were about GERMANY so heres the answer to that part:

Yes its a great place to live, the Germans are well used to you Yanks coming for a visit, the girls are nice, the food and beer good, see as much of the country as possible while there.
Hopefully you are down south in Bavaria I lived there for 5 years.

As for all the rest you posted it has nothing to do with the start of your original question it goes off at a tangent!!!

You can look up V Corps units online.

Good things about Germany:

Girls
Did I mention girls. They were everywhere when I was there.
Look in Frankfurt, Hiedlburg, Hanau, Darmstadt.
You can see lots of interesting stuff while hunting girls. You won't catch everyone but ya gotta try.

How long have you been in? if you re-enlist how many years will you have? if you are going to be in for 10 years after your second enlistment then you start thinking do I want to stay for 20 ? you would be half way there..............going to Germany or anywhere else is like the drill Sargent in your face in boot camp............your thinking in the back of your mind only another couple of weeks..........

My coworker was stationed in Germany and absolutly loved it. In fact, he loved it so much that when he retired from the air force, him and his wife moved to western washington because it reminded them of Germany. [where they live now]

He said the people are friendly to Americans [go figure].
