hey! well one thing is that the media always has the light skinned black women in the spotlight. take a look at rap videos and movies and so on. rihanna, halle barry, beyonce. they're the closest that the black race will come to white; they have very european features (and by this i mean more delicate features like smaller noses, closer set eyes) and people worldwide are basically brainwashed by the light skinned black girls and guys. nappy hair is not considered "bad hair" its just misunderstood by many people, including blacks. hair is hair, and its beautiful. dark skinned girls are very attractive and exotic, but the world is blindsighted by the media and too eurocentric to realize this. i have vry light skin and my hair isn't all that kinky, and i recall a time when i had a crush on this black kid in my class. i talked to him one day afte class and he turned his head away and said "im not into the light skinned black chicks; ya'll think you can get by easier in life because you're closer to whitey"
...see it works both ways. not all black dudes go for light girls...but hey, don't let it bother you. black is beautiful.
***one love.

I was never aware of it until recently, but it appears that the lighter colored black people are higher status than the darker colored black people. During my career, I have had two supervisors who were African Americans, and I was also friends with an African American woman in the HR department. I became aware of it after walking into a discussion. Both John and Marcie both thought the lighter colored blacks were more attractive, smarter, and more highly motivated to succeed.
Why does it happen? Maybe it is stereotyping. I am not criticizing stereotyping. It just happens whether we are aware of it or not.
I never really considered hair. I do recall people talking about having hair straighteners, but it really did not concern me so I really was not aware of the content of the discussion.

I'm white, but I have some thought questions for you.
If being darker is so bad then why do people lay out in the sun or go to tanning beds so much?
Also, have you ever thought that once the races finally get mixed up with each other - we will all look basically the same? And once we finally do get mixed up then wouldn't that mean some people have been prejudice again their own ancestors?

Well maybe that is so, and i have heard of that before. But you know not everyone is going to like you for one reason or another maybe your skin is to dark, or your hair isn't the right style, or and these are just examples, or you talk to much or too little or your teeth aren't white enough. You can't please them all and most of these things are things you can't control. Me i am not black, I am white and i don't have a nice tan, I also hardly ever fix my hair and i have put on weight since having 3 kids. Does everyone like me, no most people probably think i am annoying a don't like me. Have i tried to accept that everyone will not like me, yes i try my best.

I think thats really messed up. I think that everybody can look pretty, as corny as that sounds.
But I'm white with blonde hair and blue eyes, and im instantly labeled stupid and ditzy because of the public eye on celebrities.
I bring this up because it is pretty much the same. Famous people that are considered pretty that are black but with lighter skin, and people that are white with blonde hair and blue eyes are the "standard" for beauty. People use celebrities as role models for beauty and things in everyday life. And it applies to the hair too, pretty much all black celebrities have sleek, smooth hair, and so otherwise is considered inferior.
Its not fair. Some of my friends are other races, and I'm jealous of them sometimes because their dark hair and dark eyes look different.
Sometimes it depends on where you live.
But I grew up with racial predudice around me and towards me all my life and its really ugly.

I think it really depends on what the media portrays as "beautiful" African Americans as well as individual's personal preferences. I'm white, but frankly I think darker more ethnic -ooking African American women are simply gorgeous. The dark skin and textured hair is so beautiful. People simply have different tastes.

i am white and have a lot of friends of different nationalities, some indian, chinese, korean, japanese, hmong, canadian, colombian, belgian, russian, and yes i have friends from ghana and nigeria.
they are all the same to me
it is also important to know that everyone has different opinions, nappy hair may be considered bad by some person or group of people, but it may also be considered good. same with skin color.
. hope this helps.

There are good and undesirable human beings in each team. some attempt to end such issues in the community (on the instant or gay) mutually as others do no longer care or are a reason for the unfairness. practise and understanding can help this subject.

this phenomenon is a remnant of slavery. When the mulatto was prefered among the slaves due to the white father. This person was treated more humane than those who were not. they were seen as having "good" white blood worthy of some dignity. Thus setting up the paradox you see today.

It has to do with the way people are viewed especially before equal rights came into play. The more "white " you looked the better. You can blend in and be accepted.
