Its safer than myspace. Just dont allow IMs or emails and noone can respond. Theres no problem or dangers in asking or answering in this forum. But again, make sure under your profile that you dont allow anyone to IM ,email you, or be your fan. Who needs to utilize that with someone who is a complete stranger anyway! And your niece is only trying to protect you I guess. Chat rooms ARE dangerous since that is where sexual predators, etc look for easy targets. Just stick to the normal Q&As here and youll be fine.

How old are you? If you're an adult, you'd best make up your own mind. If you're not, forget the niece (too young) but always listen to your mother. She's been around a lot longer than you and NOBODY will ever love you like she does.

i'm sure it's safe because i've had no one bugging me about anything--you can always change your settings to not be able to email anyone and change it to 180 degrees view of your profile only, so no one knows anything about you :D
it's Not worse than a chat room because i've seen worse sites than this. and when i come across something that displeases me or violates YA, i just report abuse :) so there's nothing wrong asking questions or answering as long as you don't put in your personal details or violate YA rules :P

Look, you've got to be aware of what information you're giving out anywhere but especially on the net. It really doesn't take much to put together a picture of where you are. Who knows how someone out there may use that information.

There is a diverse group of people on this site and we all need to be careful and considerate about how we answer questions. If you dont have a decent reply to the question then dont answer at all.

So far I see it alot like the chat rooms, just not so one on one. Don't give out any personal info like who you are or where you live. Don't be offensive, call out any names or bring up unacceptable subject matter and you should be okay....I think...

i dont think its dangerouse at all because yoh can set everything so nobody can contact yooh.
&& i definatly dont think its worse than a chat room.
all this is, is a place to ask and answer questions we arent actually holding conversations.

I have been asking and answering for sometime and have never had anyone bother me. In your profile you should mark, no emails, and no IM's
