He is 17 years old. Grade 11. I know there is alot of peer pressure. My husband doesn't help because he flies off the handle to much. My son sort of blames him because he says he pressures him to get good marks and he does call him down sometimes. I dont know what to do. Need help !!

try to explain to him the consequences that this will have on future life, it is an expensive (highly addictive) habit and will prevent him from getting a good job in the future, report it to the school if that is where he is getting pot. and really experimenting is just the first time, after that its because you're addicted! drugs ruin lives!

I was in the same situation but I was the son. Pot isn't addictive, and he isn't doing it because he hates his life. It changes the way people relate to one another, not for better or for worse, its just different. This is not to say that I am condoning an act that got my arrested more then once. Its a dangerous habit and there is no sure fire way to make him stop. What you might consider doing is take away some of the thrill. Tell him and his friends that if they are going to smoke they should be at home so that atleast you know where they are. Again, there is no one way that you can use to make him stop but you can change the situation to lessen its appeal and to make sure he is safe. Contrary to what some other people have said, showing him a bunch of hard-drug addicts, or a fake arrest, or taking him to a juvenile center, is not going to make him stop, he is going to feel frustrated, cut-off, and demeened(sp). Treat him like a person who can make his own decisions (whether he can legally or not is unimportant) and all you can do is put in your 2 cents and hope that eventually he comes around.

Take him down town at night and show him the drug addicts and explain to him that after a while the weed won't satisfy him and he will try harder drugs and he may end up on the streets or worse dead. Sometimes tell them the dangers doesn't get thru' but seeing is believing. Tell worked for my daughter but my son had to be scared straight. They are 25 & 23 now and when they see people their age doing drugs and drinking excessively it digusies them. They are helping me keep my 14 yr old on the straight and norrow, just by being an excellent example to her.

Explaining to such teens in logical way is waste of your time. Of course he doesn't care - that is why he is doing it. He has all the knowledge you could ever tell him already and he has decided it doesn't apply to him.

Unfortunately, he will eventually get caught, arrested, spend a night or two in detention, then he may get scared straight. In some area, police has a program that will rescue at risk teens by faking arrest and put him through the routine. You might want to inquire about it, perhaps anonymously.

Call the police on him. He needs intervention. The legal system could scare him straight, but it might not and you can lose your house if he is caught with narcotics at home. Either way you cannot allow him to get away with breaking the law.

If he's in his teens, just ground him until he stops. Dont let him leave the house without you unless he is going to school, and when he gets home, have him give you his backpack and empty out his pockets. If he cant get any pot, he's not gonna do it.

I know it sounds strange but take him to a local prison and ask the police officers if they can talk to him, or let him talk to a few inmates who are in there for drugs. Some of the inmates who are trying to straighten up may scare him ...also see if you can take him to a hospital where they have drug rehabilitation, let him talk to counselors and recovering drug addicts. Sometimes you have to scare them straight.
