jersey shore for sure. coney island really doesnt have a lot and it is a lil ghetto....i wouldnt want to swim in the waters too, too grimey...but jersey shore there are soo many places u can go, point pleasant, sea side heights, wildwood, sandy hook, cape may...if ure young i would suggest wildwood or seaside, wildwood is waaay down there, but the boardwalk is bigger and better, and seaside is a little dirtier than wildwood, but still is good. point pleasant isnt that bad either, but its a lil boring than wildwood or seaside. personally i like wildwood, but everyones different. hope i helped

Coney Island is probably my favorite place in NYC (and in my own borough of Brooklyn) -- and you should go see it if you have a chance. It has a beautiful beach, the Boardwalk, the history, the Cyclone roller coaster, the view of the ocean from the top of the Wonder Wheel ferris wheel, the original Nathan's hot dogs, "freak shows", a nice minor-league ballpark - and many other interesting - though rather seedy - attractions.)
However, Coney Island is a day trip. You don't want to stay overnight there, so I have to agree with everyone else - the Jersey Shore is a better bet for a weekend getaway.

In another 10 years, Coney Island, right now, the Jersey Shore. They are starting to redevelop Coney Island, making those high rises with the spectacular ocean view into co-ops and condos. Right now it's not the greatest area, although it has improved. You could go to the Aquarium or to see minor league baseball, all of that could be done in one day. For a couple of days, the Jersey Shore, especially around Belmar, is better.

Jersye Shore
Coney Island is nice for a one day visit but does not have the amenities for stay over visits like Jersey.
Jersey is also much safer

Coney Island is pretty slummy. It is a shadow of its former hey days 60 years ago. Avoid it.
Jersey shore is better but expensive. Ocean City has nice beaches but if you like to gamble go to Atlantic City.
