Most rotties are dominate and to a dog petting is trying to be dominate. If you are not pack leader then she will take over and punish you as she sees fit. Being very affectionate, playing ball when she wants, giving her a treat when she wants, and petting her when she wants all tell the dog that she is in charge. She comes over and say PET me now, so you pet her, you are reinforcing she is boss. When she is tired of you petting her she bites to tell you. Take her to obed, school, keep her off the bed by babygating the doorway and you can try the No Free Lunch method.

You say you adopted--way to go!! Takes time with adopted/rescued dogs to figure out their quirks and past treatment. You may have invaded her space a bit? You may be coming on too strong because of your loss, not a bad thing. You may have petted a tender spot or area. Possibly a old injury/abuse?
We get dogs that are fine to be petted except for a certain area==for whatever reason. Sometimes, if persist, we will have vet check more thoroughly to make sure not a "hidden" problem. She may have been abused/injured and the area is tender to touch. If you were kind of in her face she may have felt threatened. If you were talking at the time and close to head it could be her ears.
Stand back and observe her closely to look for clues. I assume you had your vet check her thoroughly. Sometimes problems are hidden. It could be past treatment and that takes time to heal. Thanks for adopting!!

Is she spayed? How old is she? Did you have her backed in a corner, smilling in her face? Dogs take smiling as a sign of aggression: teeth bared, and if you did that while she was nervous, scared, or backed in a corner, that may have incited it. Sounds like you got off with a warning bite, dogs are quite aware of how hard they are biting you and Rotties could take your face off if they had a mind to. I would consult with a professional, the longer behavior like this goes unchecked, the more dangerous it becomes.

Oh Please with The Cesar Bashing already.
I have first hand experience with him here in Los Angeles.
he is a true professional who has an uncanny way with dogs.
as to the question at hand?
The fact is no one on here will answer this question for you, you need a professional, not amateurs to help with an agressive dog.
Who knows what her history is, etc.
Good luck.

You need to find a behaviorist who can take a full history and find out all the circumstances involved.
This isn't the place to get good advice for this circumstance. If somebody can't see your dog and do a good evaluation, you might end up doing something wholly wrong.
Whatever you do, DON"T follow any advice the recommends Cesar Millan. If you do, you'll end up HAVING to euthanise your dog for aggression.

Get her to a trainer right away. That is unacceptable behavior and will only grow if it is not stopped right now. Next time she could take some flesh with her.

Have you been obedience training? I know the answer. no! You do not understand dog behavior and have not remedied this. You need training so that you can correct behavior problems and prevent them.

Keep a spray bottle handy. Fill it with plain water and give her a squirt of two when she misbehaves.
