Which do you believe is the real factor in banishing the demon. Is it the crosses, scripture, and holy water? Or is it the willpower/heart/faith of the people involved?

In other words do you believe crosses, holy water and scripture are necessary for a succesful exorcism or that all you need is a strong spirit and proper training? Is faith in the Christian God nesecarry or will faith alone do (i.e. faith in yourself, in another divine entity.)? Only serious answers please. I am genuinly curious on how those who believe in demons or demon like spirits view exorcism.

It is the power of the person themselves. You have ultimate power over your own dominion (body and spirit). No other spirit or entity can have power over you unless you allow it or are frightened into it believing you have no power. Command from your Heart of Hearts that the spirit be gone and truly believe in your own power and the spirit or entity has no choice but to leave you be. This is another unknown dimension of free will and divine individual power.

Jesus even spoke of this when he said "you are as I am, you have the power to move mountains etc." Not an exact quote but his meaning was clear.

Only Jesus Christ can "exercise" a demon from a person. Faith is a component or "gift" of the Holy Spirit, given to those, who God, the Father, has drawn to himself called Christians. Some demons require a real closeness to God, through both, "much prayer & fasting", to enable the spiritual strength to be present to complete the task. I, personally, have known people, who have done this and they tell me it is real and very horrifying, to say the least. Some of those Hollywood movies contain close facts on this (barring the Exorcist movie i.e. the part where the possessed person's head rotated). Yes; the voice changes and the person is very strong in strength. It's real-alright !!! Respect it and never provoke a demon possessed person. I have some real scary stories from those, who were there and eye-witnesses, too ! I get the chills just thinking about it.

Faith is the key. The Cross makes him uneasy, because he hates the sight of it, the Holy Water burns, and he hates the sound of the Holy Word. All these combined, plus the injunction of the True Master (the Holy Trinity) force him to retreat. Only someone trained by another well versed in exorcism should even attempt the ritual. This is not for fooling around.

In the gospels Christ repeatedly casts demons out of people. It is through Christ therefore that one must expect deliverance from demons. The crucifixes, holy water and the priest are instruments; it is His power flowing through them that actually performs an exorcism. He advises his disciples that persistent demons can be cast out by prayer and fasting, so someone who thinks they are being harrased by a demon should pray and fast. Since they are good for casting out demons, it seems logical that prayer and fasting would also protect you from demonic attacks in the first place.

willpower/heart/faith for sure but then you can apply your faith on anything. Demons only bring spiritual harm therefore if it gets too bad, it can cause mental therefore physical harm. People under Demon control do not realize there actions. I would definalty say that faith in God alone does a great Job and it is God only that we should Love and Fear.

It is all of that and plus a experienced person qualified to do an excorsism is needed, with the permission of the Bishop. Doing an excorsism alone without knowledge can be very dangerous. Always consult someone with more experience.

The only power over demons is the name of Jesus Christ. Nothing else works. Nothing else holds all power and authority over the spiritual realm. Only those who are walking in right relationship with Jesus can wield this power successfully.

There is a story in the Bible of a man who tried to cast out demons "in the name of Jesus of Nazareth who Paul preaches" -- The demons turned on him and said basically, "we know Jesus, and we know Paul, but who are you?" and they attacked him.

In other words, without being a delegated representative of the Lord, you better not be trying to use His name to command demons.

Demons flee with the mere mention of the name of Jesus!

..being demon possessed is not all pea soup and head spins....demonic influence can result in discouragement, suicidal thoughts, even I believe prejudice.

The disciples did not need crosses and holy water...nor do we. If you think someone needs to be exercised...cast them out in the name of Jesus! The name above all names!!!

once I studied christianity we've been taught that any spirit that replaced into no longer from God replaced into from the devil. As there replaced into no concept in ghosts, as all ineffective people have been asleep interior the spirit finding forward to judgement day, we've been to have faith that any element like spirit courses and so on, have been demonic. the conceitedness of Christianity replaced into between the main considerable motives I have been given out of it.

The real factor is the authority that comes from using the name of Jesus in faith because a person has received the Holy Spirit and been born again into the family of Christ.

Acts 16:16 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and us, crying out, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation." 18 And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And it came out that very hour.

Acts 19:13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "I adjure you by the Jesus, whom Paul proclaims." 14 Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. 15 But the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?" 16 And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
