Slight correction: It doesn't _keep_ them off, it _gets_ them off. In other words, it doesn't keep watch night and day and spot things as they happen. You have to explicitly run it, either by hand or via a scheduled task, for it to find anything.
It does have a good reputation for doing that, though.

SpyBot won't KEEP keylogging programs off your computer... but it will delete them. If you're not already running firewall (and I'm not talking about Windows XP's excuse for firewall) then I DEFINITELY recommend you do so straight away.
Zone Alarm is a free download you can get from http://www.zonealarm.com and will help you keep all the nasties out.
Firewall, along with running SpyBot will help you keep your computer secure from keylogging programs and other spyware.
You might also find that running a second spyware program like Adaware (available at http://www.download.com ) can find spyware that SpyBot doesn't pick up on and vice versa.
And, of course, if you're not running any antivirus software, then you should get some :) Avast antivirus is free for personal use and works very well (again available at http://www.download.com )
Hope that helps.

It does pick up keyloggers, but you should also use a good anti virus software
