There are tiny (tear-open type) packets of Mayonnaise in a wicker basket in the lunch room at work. Is it safe for me to use them? I thought Mayonnaise needs to be refrigerated and not be out on the table for days.

It is no different than the jars of mayonnaise that are on store shelves. Most foods that require refrigeration only need to be after the original seal has been broken.

Does not have to be refigerated - the ones in packets. However, if the seal is broken bacteria can get in. The ones with tears are not ok to eat.

Yes they are safe to eat because the acid content in them is high enough that they don't need to be refrigerated if they are not open.

They are hermetically sealed & contain loads of preservatives. It's the fresh home made kind which is dangerous. It contains egg which may have salmonella.
It's also a good host for any bacteria to which it's exposed.

Yes. Believe or not, Mayo lasts a really long time unopened. Just check and make sure there the package hasn't been damaged.

Provided the expiration date has not passed, or the seal is broken, then there should be no problem.
