I want to take my wife on a day trip. I would like to go somewhere within 3 to 4 hours of Indianapolis. She is pregnant, so hiking is kind of out of the question, but we love scenic drives and historical sites. Any suggestions?

Just 3 hrs south you will find Clifty Falls State Park. It is a beautiful place to take a drive. You can drive along the Ohio River and check out Madison and further up the road is a little town called Vevay. Both places have antique shops and local eateries that are cozy. You will find historical sites along the way and if you want a place to stay there are some nice Bed-N-Breakfasts to choose from. Further up the road you may check out Belterra Casino. It is full of places to eat and other things to do besides gambling. My Grandparents would take this drive quite often, they loved it. My husband and I have stayed at the Belmark Inn there in Vevay. And do check it out when you are able to hike again for you must see the falls up close. There is also a tunnel that was left unfinished that you can go through if you are brave enough. So, I highly recommend a trip to Southern Indiana, winding your way along the scenic route of the Ohio River.

I would suggest West Baden Springs Hotel. It is breathtaking. Just walking around the grounds makes one think of the 1920's and 1930's. The hotel itself will take your breath away.

Now that it's fully restored, it would make an awesome trip.

Another is Oliver Winery just outside Bloomington. The grounds are lushly landscaped, with little plaques telling what the different flowers and ferns are. Even if you don't go up to the tasting bar, just looking around is cool. They also give tours of the winery.

Brown County is also a lot of fun, with quaint little shops.

All of these are south of Indianapolis.

Have fun!

The Northeast corner of Indiana is Steuben County. Land of 101 lakes. Beautiful state park. There really are 101 lakes. The Auburn Cord museum is not far. There is also a windmill museum. Canoeing, camping, swimming. Fun spot amusement park has a nice zoo. Fort Wayne has a nice zoo, also. The Angola area has an outlet mall with many stores. alot of souvenier shops. If you choose to go north, e-mail me and I'll talk to you in depth about the area. It's nice.

If you're wanting to stay in Indiana, there are several State Parks (as mentioned above). There is also Covered Bridges in Parke County. Hoosier Park (horse track) in Anderson. Riverboats and casinos.

Chicago, Louisville, Columbus, Ohio and St. Louis...all about 3 hrs away.

I guess it depends on what kind of entertainment you are looking for on your day trip. A nice trip up north to Amish Acres in Nappanee, IN is a nice getaway (http://www.amishacres.com). And while you're up north you could swing over and visit Chicago for a day. Cincinatti is only about 2 hours away and there is lots to see and do there as well depending upon your mood.

Brown County is beautiful in the fall, but it's nice to hike, and your wife can't right now.
How about Celina, OH, where Grand Lake St. Marys is, and then to Lake Loramie, quite close to there? (that's if she likes lakes).
Another place could be Chain O'Lakes State Park, in Albion, IN. One of my favorite places.

Louisville has some good places to eat and some fun things to do like take in a Minor league baseball game, also take a tour of the horse farms here, not that much walking.
