Anno domini does mean in the year of our Lord, which is more of a way of praising him. By taking the other set of years, BC (before Christ) you see that it's meant to pick up when he was born.

Odd thing though, a lot of people would put his birth in about 4 BC given other events described at the time.

So it doesn't make much difference. It's an arbitrary demarcation in time.

AD does stand for Anno Domini, the year of our lord. It marks time from the supposed birth of Jesus. I prefer using CE, or Common Era.

You are correct AD means Anno Domini, which means in the year of our Lord. It's a common misconception that it means After Death. If it did there would 30+ years that would be "missing".

Presumptuous little bugger, are not we? do no longer you propose, "If we had lived 30 years after Jesus had died and resurrected ... " ??? i might in all likelihood have been lion food with the numerous different Christians that Rome took pastime in attempting to destroy. (i assume it did no longer artwork. Christians are nonetheless around.)
