im going to a battle of the bands thing with this friend of mine. ive known him for years and ive always liked him a little. there have been a few times where we liked each other but neither of us took the chance. since im going to that thing with him should i take a chance with him or just enjoy the night as friends?

Take the chance. What do you have to lose? If you don't, you'll always wonder. If you take the chance and it doesn't work out, what's stopping you from being friends still? Assuming you're past the silly 14 year old stage, of course...

TAKE THE CHANCE theres no way that you will know how great it could be until you try but no matter what make sure that if you do get together and eventrualy break up stay friends although its realy hard, so yeah go for it chances are that it will be worth it.............hope this helps.
