Ah... it seems the answer to your question is within it. Although it may appear it is a zen solution it is not. Let me change the question and send it your way. How do you get girls to really enjoy spending an entire afternoon watching sports cars at an auto show without you telling them? It does not get any simpler.- Basically you are asking how to communicate something without communicating. The answer is (drum-roll please)... you can't.
You'll just have to tell them. Remember that WE - and I am referring to the masculine gender - are very lousy at taking hints so the clearer you make yourself the better.
On the other hand, chivalry and plain old courtesy is something you learn at home and, believe it or not, there are a lot of guys who think it is actually cool to hold such values as highly important. My advice is: Let everyone know that you think chivalry and courtesy are values you really appreciate for they undoubtedly differentiate the man from the gentleman. One last thought... there is no age limit and the coin falls both ways.

If they don't do it on their own it is because they feel stupid doing it, or they are jerks, or they have never been taught to do that kind of thing. When it just randomly happens going in and out of a building or something like that, mention to him that you really like that he opened the door for you. Make sure to look him straight in the eye and say this. We trend to pass over this kind of compliment with out solid upfront conversation that makes us say either your welcome or thanks. Do this every time it happens and it will start happening more and more until it becomes a habit. HELP HIM MAKE IT A HABIT!!! My wife won't even get in the car if I don't open her door for her. I love it. And when I do she tells me how muck she loves it and gives me a little kiss. We are a lot like dogs, positive reinforcement goes a long ways. If he laughs at you or doesn't make any effort on his own, he is a jerk and just will never get it. If he has never been taught than you have to say something or else how else could he possibly know that it is important.

My friend nevers get out the car when she's on a date until the guy opens it for her....she'll just sit in the car until he gets the picture! lol
Chivalry is dead so there's not much you can do but hope the guy has manners. Some men don't want to do anything for you unless he thinks he's getting something in return. Like booty lol.

Conduct yourself as a lady and most guys will just automatically do it.
And the situation sometimes has somethin to do with it too. I mean if I'm takin my gf somewhere (like to a cinema or restaurant) then it's just automatic that I open doors, let her go first and stuff. But if we are just messin around goin fishin or somethin and we are carryin stuff, I probly wont then.

almost all the guys i hang out with do this. i think maybe cuz its just in my nature to automatically expect a guy to do it. if you are walking to the car together, slow down and pause and wait for him to open the door for you. or if you're walking to a door at the mall or something, just step to the side for a brief second and he'll open it. unless you're with really uncivilized, no manners type guys. after he opens the door for you, be sure to emphasize his behavior, a simple "thanks" will remind him how you appreciate it and hopefully he'll do it again!

If you have to say something to get them to do it then you haven't found the right guy yet. And in this day and time you may be looking for a long time.. But when you find him, chances are you found a keeper. So keep looking.

You should only date gentlemen who were brought up to treat a lady with respect, and then you don't have to say anything to them.
Chivalry is not dead, women just need to stand up for themselves and then they will get treated with respect.

Allow them to find you and stop looking. Evidently you are looking in all the wrong places.
