While the Bible was written by MAN and not God, it is entirely possible that everything in it is a load of crap. That's where faith comes in...
You see, at the end of the day it doesn't matter if the stories are true or not, as long as they help society in meeting it's goals. For example, the Bible teaches us to love thy neighbor and all that, so it actually sets guidelines for how we should act towards each other.
Further, if one is dying and it makes them feel better to believe that they are going to heaven... I say that's a good thing. Just think about how much it helps the loved ones left behind to think that their friend / family member is in a better place and didn't simply cease to exist.

Mythology is one of the greatest human inventions. It has brought people together, given them comfort, and opened their minds. The Bible is indeed a book of myths and fables.
As societies have become more organized and competitive, however, religion has evolved into a strict, judgmental, cult-like establishment in some cases. This has led to the exact opposite of the stories' original intentions. People interpret ancient, outdated texts literally and feel threatened when others speak objectively. If instead the ancient texts were read with an open, inquisitive mind, searching for the benevolently-intentioned underlying theme, the stories would not seem so irrelevant.
The point of the Bible is to open doors to personal peace and tranquility, not be grounds for the opposite on a societal level.
So what I'm saying is this: Liberally-oriented non-religious people need to stop trying to poke logical holes in a book that was not meant to be logical and scientific, and equally, conservative Christians need to stop interpreting their Sacred Text as a literal rulebook. The Bible is a beautiful thing. See it for what it is and read it with an open mind.

First off, to the greeks their gods and godesses were not a bedtime story, they believed that they were real. So this leads me to believe you worded your question wrong souly to be derogatory. Secondly, of course some of the Bible is fiction, not all Christians, believe it or not, take the Bible word for word. And though it's impossible to prove that some of the people in the Bible ever existed... Jesus as well as quite a few other 'Bible characters' are historical figures.

Thats the smartest question I've heard today. Yes it would be. I'll take actual proven facts found from Science of this era of humans existing over 50,000 years over a book that is said to tell us humans were created 4 or 6,000 years ago.

You would probably have a higher opinion of the Bible if it hadn't been misrepresented to you your entire life.

Like I'd read that as a bedtime story? With all of the killing, incest, rape and stuff I'd surely not want to scar my children with it.
