Some of my best friends are in the Coast Guard. Hanging around with boats all day isn't a bad lifestyle in my view.

They serve a number of very important functions. They rescue idiots like me that don't know as much about boats as we think we do, they teach water safety, they do security missions, they do law enforcement missions to stop smugglers and illegal immigrants, there's a lot of really honorable stuff they do.

The coast guard is just as much a Military service as the Army,Navy, AirForce and Marines are.
They serve world-wide, their training is tough and intense and they play a major role in our defense.
There are advantages and disadvantages, just like any branch of the service.
If the CG is calling you, then., go. You'll make your parents proud, and you'll get quite a bit out of it.

This accurate type of information is unavailable on Yahoo Answers.

You must visit with, or telephone your hometown military Recruiters for the very latest information. (A visit is best when getting your information.)

Right now, start making a list of all the questions you can think of. When the time comes, take your list of questions with you to the hometown military Recruiter and "pick their brain" to ensure all your questions are answered.

Also ask what types of high school courses you would also need to graduate high school, which would be to your advantage for your potential future job, when enlisting in the military.
