I seen a program the other night called the great global warming swindle... it basically says man made global warming is an elaborate lie created by governments just to make money.
This seems a bit too good to be true but it also seems to make a lot of sense, for instance they have a lot of data showing the earth warming and cooling for millions of years.
Whats your opinion?

I. too. have seen the global warming swindle and thought it put up some reasonable arguments. Anybody that uses Wikipedia as a source of information over a debate needs to think again and the debate over global warming is far from over.
If CO2 is such a heat retaining gas then ponder over this. Why when I put a bottle of fizzy drink at room temperature in the freezer that within a very short time it's cool? Why has a thermos flask have a vacuum space around it and not a space pumped full of CO2?
Methane has been classed as a greenhouse gas but methane is inflammable and with so many electrical storms going on around the planet is that not burnt up? Methane levels are supposed to be on the rise as well from agriculture. In the dinosaur era these huge animals roamed the planet and we have no idea how many were here at any one time. Some of the largest dinosaurs, so we are told, ate large amounts of vegetation and must have given off large amounts of methane. Did the planet heat up and destroy it's self? I suggest that one fart from one of those could've kept a household cooker going for a year.
Another question that puzzles me is why in winter, the moment the sun sinks below the horizon and before it gets dark, the temperature plummets when supposedly there is enough CO2 in the air to keep us warm?
When I observe these conditions I'm hard pressed to believe CO2 has anything to do with global warming.

The swindle movie is bogus.

It is simply a political statement which distorts science. The director has a history of putting out misleading stuff. In 1997 he made a series for Channel 4 called “Against Nature”, which compared environmentalists with Nazis. Channel 4 had to apologise for the misleading stuff in that one. The present movie is also a distortion of the science. More here:

"A Channel 4 documentary claimed that climate change was a conspiratorial lie. But an analysis of the evidence it used shows the film was riddled with distortions and errors."

Gore's movie may be a little over dramatic, but it has the basic science right. This movie does not.

Channel 4 itself undercuts the movie in a funny way. If you go to their website on the movie you find links to real global warming information. They also have a way to "Ask the Expert" about global warming. The questions go to a respected mainstream scientist who supports (mostly) human responsibility for global warming.

So, why did Channel 4 broadcast it?

"The science might be bunkum, the research discredited. But all that counts for Channel 4 is generating controversy."

Global Warming may very well be true, however, the earth is a massive ecosystem, and to think that collectively, we can actually influence the environment to the extent that our actions endangers our well being is just foolish. I think that we are called on to be good stewards of our home planet, but we are also called to be fruitful in our lives and multiply. As a race, we have been very successful in both. You can't assume a hybrid or some silly carbon credit is the answer to combating increased CO2 or other so called greenhouse gasses. Last I checked, volcanoes are responsible for a large majority of greenhouse emmissions. Perhaps we should put forth a resolution to demand they decrease their output by 50% before 2050 !

the gullability of the American public is what will ensure their decline
dont believe the movies
go by the people who have died already

WHO OR WHAT IS TO BLAME

Irresponsible Agriculture , expanding populations and its effects are having drastic effects on the well being of the Environment

This text only covers some aspects of Climate change ,i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification ,because of irresponsible farming using chemicals ,over pumping carbon aquifers, over grazing ,wild fires (because of slash and burn gone out of control).

Water and air polution ,such as caused by
industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories.

All of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions.

There are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations .

The thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up. This is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions.

In North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss , desertification and some have died as a result.

Now many animals are becoming sick because of changes in temperature .
Vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain .

We are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs.
Of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years.
Each year, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.

Everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year.
Most of the desserts are as a results of mans actions. And they are increasing .In the dinosaurs days ,there were few desserts.

Each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

There is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate Agriculture.

Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities.

Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.

This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.

The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil(because of desertification and irreverible erosion)

Over the last half century,
Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million

In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .

see question-"do you think that these quotes..."
. "...it basically says man made global warming is an elaborate lie created by governments just to make money..."
did you actually pay attention to the whole film?
the majority of the film spent it's time interviewing scientists about science, both theirs and that of the pro-global warming doom scientists.
yes, the politics of global warming doom were discussed, but that was absolutely secondary to the science.

I'm not going to waste time debunking The Great Global Warming Swindle, just type it into a search engine and see for yourself what a load of garbage it is. If you need confirmation that it's junk the producer himself will tell you so - e-mail him: gw at wagtv dot com.

It is very real, it is true earth has changed temperature over the years but man (mostly with the burning of fossil fuels)has accelerated the warming of earth.

Of course its true. Even Mars is having global warming right now. No doubt caused by those Rovers and all the extra emissions.
