Hi everyone! I need a few non-cliche recommendations for songs for the first dance as husband and wife. I've been to about 8 weddings and most of the couples use the same song over and over. So...if anyone has any good suggestions I'd greatly appriciate them! Thank you!

For those that want details, my fiance and I met through friends, the reception will be at a yacht club, we are both very outgoing and like to party but we would like a nice, not too sappy song for our first dance.

Ours was "Betcha By Golly, Wow" by the Stylistics.

There's a spark of magic in your eyes
Candyland appears each time you smile
Never thought that fairy tales came true
But they come true when I'm near you
You're a genie in disguise
Full of wonder and surprise

And betcha by golly, wow
You're the one that I've been waiting for forever
And ever will my love for you keep growin' strong
Keep growin' strong

If I could I'd catch a falling star
To shine on you so I'll know where you are
Order rainbows in your favorite shade
To show I love you, thinking of you
Write your name across the sky
Anything you ask I'll try, `cause

Betcha by golly, wow
You're the one that I've been waiting for forever
And ever will my love for you keep growin' strong
Keep growin' strong
Betcha by golly, wow
You're the one that I've been waiting for forever
And ever will my love for you keep growin' strong
Keep growin' strong

Congratulations! Happiness together always!

I don't know if you're religious but if you are I think this is a beautiful song. Its called When God Made You by Newsong and Natalie Grant.
Here are the lyrics:
It’s always been a mystery to me
How two hearts can come together
And love can last forever
But now that I have found you, I believe
That a miracle has come
When God sends the perfect one

Now gone are all my questions about why
And I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life

chorus:
I wonder what God was thinking
When He created you
I wonder if He knew everything I would need
Because He made all my dreams come true
When God made you
He must have been thinking about me

I promise that wherever you may go
Wherever life may lead you
With all my heart I’ll be there too
From this moment on I want you to know
I’ll let nothing come between us
One can’t move without the other
They just have to be together
And that is why I know it’s true
You’re for me and I’m for you
Cause my world just can’t be right
Without you in my life

He must have heard every prayer I’ve been praying
Yes, He knew everything I would need
When God made you
When dreams come true
When God made you
He must have been thinking about me

Depends I suppose on who you are and what sense of humour you and your guests have. If you are all comical and want to get a laugh out of everyone could use Alice Cooper's "Welcome To My Nightmare". If you are more retro there is always "I'm A Believer" by The Monkey's. But if your a romantic and more traditional then perhaps Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" or Faith Hill's "Breathe". Whatever you and your fiance decide on I hope that it something that means something special to you both. My lady and I just married 3 weeks ago and we downloaded all our own music for the dance and each and every song had a special message on it and meaning to us. And we did use various gendres and had a blast. All the best to you.

Congratulations on your commitment.

***EDIT (this just in, upon seeing "not too sappy..."):

Consider the GoGos' "Head Over Heels," from
summer of 1984, then have the DJ follow immediately
with Sade's "Paradise". The double-shot of upbeat
AND terrific innuendo of their titles in teamwork will
leave a remarkable imprint of Ever-Uniqueness
for the two of you.***

Definitely try these gems:

Sea Of Love ~ the Honeydrippers

Kiss Of Life / No Ordinary Love ~ Sade

How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) ~ Marvin Gaye

I'm Winning ~ Santana

You're the Only Thing That's Real ~ Sister Seven

< at every wedding--which quickly turns one's head
to soap, doesn't it?--AND they're sweet and memorable!

Let me know. Love to help when I can.

Our first dance was "Beautiful Mess" by Diamond Rio. I don't think it's too cliche or sappy...
Going out of my nind these days,
Like Im walkin round in a haze,
I cant think straight, I cant concentrate,
And I need to shave.

I go to work and I look tired,
The boss man said son you gona get fired,
This aint your style, and behind my coffee cup,
I just smile.

Chorus
What a beautiful mess, what a beautiful mess Im in spending all my time with you
Theres nothing else Id rather do.
What a sweet addiction that Im caught up in, cause I cant get enough
Cant stop the hunger for your love.
What a beautiful mess, what a beautiful mess Im in. (ah ah)

This morning put salt in my coffee
I put my shoes on the wrong feet
Im loosen my mind I swear, it might be the death of me, but I dont care.

Chorus

Bridge
Is it your eyes,
Is it your smile.
All I know is that
Your driven me wild.

How about a song from your favorite movie. Just don't choose Top Gun or Titanic, which are perfect cliche songs!

Like "I want to grow old with you" by Adam Sandler in the Wedding Singer.

Change the World by Eric Clapton

If I could reach the stars I'd pull one down for you
Shine it on my heart so you could see the truth
That this love I have inside is everything it seems
But for now I find it's only in my dreams

CHORUS:
That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You will think my love was really something good
Baby if I could change the world

If I could be king even for a day
I'd take you as my queen I'd have it no other way
And our love will rule in this kingdom we have made
Till then I'd be a fool wishin' for the day

CHORUS:
That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You will think my love was really something good
Baby if I could change the world
Baby if I could change the world

Ours is going to be Georgia Satellites "Keep your hands to yourself" or Otis Redding "Lovers Prayer" or "These Arms of Mine" also by Otis Redding.....not sure yet if the first one will scandalize the family haha.

"Please Don't Go" by KC and the Sunshine Band was my mom's song and we thought about using it but I know it would get too sad.
