I love all of his crew chiefs.I love Ray Evernham and wish he was still his crew chief as they were a powerful combination and contributed to alot of his success and alot of his wins and alot of his seasons with numerous wins and championships. I love Robbie Loomis and was sad to see him go last year after so long with Jeff but I realized that Petty was were his roots were and where he started at so I understand loyality and career opportunites and I think him and Jeff are still friends and talk along with Jeff and Ray. I wasn't sure how well Steve could do the job after having Robbie and Ray but he is making some great calls and having a spectacular season and I think he will have his first championship with Gordon and Gordon will get his 5th. Something that everyone has been looking forward too. I would love for him to win it in the same year he had his baby daughter which by the way I hope they don't namer her something tacky or something weird but something that will fit her and the Gordon name. I also hope he doesnt miss a race due to the birth but things happen but I hope they dont. I believe Robbie has one with Jeff and the other 3 are with Ray and Steve is working on his 1st so I would say if Ray hadn't left probably around 6 or 7 maybe or more who knows. I am glad that Jeff is successful and is having a great career with mayn more years to come.

well if the points system had not changed (and the original trigger was evernham--ill explain later) he would be at 5 now... having ray there till now i see him having 7 because he lost 2 due to mechanical mishaps thru the year.. mishaps a veteran cheif could avoid... now; evernhams move to dodge set in motion a plan to give dodge the advantage their first season and a half.. thats called giving more people a chance.. nextel brought this theory into play when they came onboard after they saw evernhams golden chance benefitted and competition got tighter--they wanted the same ... personally ; the chase owes gordon 1... the chase sucks, but the C.O.T. is supposed to put it in the drivers hands, and we see who is the best with this new idea...

I don't think he would have won 8 Championships by now even with Everham as his crew chief. It doesn't work statistically. Jeff is just ahead of Dale Sr in that he has won a championship every 3.5 years to Dale's 3.7 (Petty has one every 5.5 years) That would equate to 8 Championships over his career. Where I think Jeff and Ray would have excelled the most is in the number of wins in a career. I think that they would have been over 120 wins by now and would have given Petty's record a good run. After all, averageing just 8 wins over 25 years gives you 200 wins and I think they could very well have been better than that. But, would thay have stayed together that long is another story.

I think he would still be at three. When Ray left to start his own Team the magic between him and Gordon was gone. Ray was more focused on his future and less on getting Gordon to victory lane.
We can see know who was the "Magic Man" in their partnership. Jeff racked up another Championship while Ray can barely get a car into the Chase. He can't stablize his Teams long enough to remain competitive. Once they become competetive he splits them up.
No, they won't have 8 Championships; sorry. I am a Gordon Fan; yet I know the reality of the situation and to me, Jeff would be stuck at 3 Championships and probably have only 65 wins.

I don't know that is a loaded question ! They were good together but Ray hasn't exactly set the world on fire with out him ! Jeff has another Championship without him but people will say that is because Ray had everything in place but Ray is now looking for someone to buy half of his organization !!!

Thought about that quite a bit myself. I'm thinking seven, going for #8 this year. Those two were racing magic together. I used to love watching Rousch getting all bent out of shape because he couldn't figure out how they did it.
Unfortunately, Dodge made Ray an offer he couldn't refuse, so I guess we'll never know.
